emergency breathing technique if having trouble breathing due to plague | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 45537964 United States 02/29/2020 01:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I wanted to post about "pursed-lip breathing". Hopefully none of us will have to do this, but it works. Here is why it works, the method forces closed breathing sacs in the lungs to expand allowing more air. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77222658 1-Okay so you breathe in through your nose for eight seconds. 2-Then hold your breath for eight seconds. 3-Then as-if blowing-out through a straw or blowing a bubble, SLOWLY exhale. The exhale is what causes the lung expansion where it opens the areas in the back of the lung. I'm also thinking that there are probably some hacks to help people breathe in the event of a bad shutdown? Like using a bag to manually force air for someone? just tried it it works wow THANKS! :) |

I've tried every single trick aside from submerging or going back up to 10,000 ft. Hmm for real? Pinch your nostrils shut and blow through your nose. As for breathing tricks, I beat asthma so I know a little about breathing control. Stick your stomach out, and breathe from your stomach. It should go up and down with each breath, not your chest. This will allow far better expansion and intake of breath. Breath through your nose whenever able. Cold air will irritate the throat and narrow the airways. Move as little as possible. Moving demands oxygen, so the less you move the less you need. Don't hyperventilate, this will provide the same problems as not breathing enough. Breathe as slowly as possible so you can absorb maximum oxygen from each breath. |

Asthma has been, and continues to be, that ONE troubling aspect of any SHTF scenario. I don't understand why <<they>> won't allow albuterol inhalers to be sold OTC. This world of ours is full of so many triggering sustances. In my case, indusrial and mechanical smells, some perfumes, most cleaning products...including things like air fresheners and Febreeze. And, all the crap put into foods. My worst trigger is when I find myself visiting others, eating their foods; at home I do organics, and know what foods to avoid. I've had limited success trying to find the right herbal and homeopathic concoctions that consistently work as well as albuterol. What works the first time tends to have diminished effect the next, as if my immune system has learned to turn them off. It's a conundrum. I'm willing to try tips that helped you. There was also once a device that modulated your breathing out. You'd exhale through it, and there was a valve inside that opened and closed during the exhale. It would vary the pressure in your lungs and that helped to clear obstructions. I think you could replicate the effect by hand or something. Also, if your bronchi are getting congested, sit down facing backwards in a chair, lean over the backrest and have someone rhythmically "beat" (hard) your back when you exhale. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76538212 United States 03/03/2020 01:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you are all welcome. The term and technique for "pursed-lip" has been promoted by healthcare for ages but for myself I never understood how to do it until I saw the explanation of how it opens-up the back of the lungs. I have asthma and it works for me. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77222658 I'm lifelong asthmatic too. Been using this technique for decades.... but did you know.... Adding a 2nd trick to pursed lung breathing can make it improve lung capacity even more! Since your a fellow asthmatic, I'll share.....You do the exact same thing as above, and the fist nose inhale is the same, but the 2nd nose inhale you do in 2parts..."sniff, sniff" the next nose inhale in 3 parts, "sniff, sniff, sniff" and you keep going until you have maxed out your lung capacity. Inhailing this was makes you stretch your lungs each time you strive to get that extra sniff count in. After breathing like this for 10-15 minutes you'll definitely feel the stretch. ...also, on a different note, not sure you know as an asthamatic but at times you feel your asthma shutting your lungs down, instead of fighting to breath, next time test the opposite...Completely empty all the air out of your lungs, hold it that way until your body says you MUST BREATH NOW that sudden deep gasp of air forces your alveoli to open and drain. Thought it was nuts when I first heard about it, but it works pretty good. |

What works the first time tends to have diminished effect the next, as if my immune system has learned to turn them off. It's a conundrum. I'm willing to try tips that helped you. Lifelong triggered asthma, like you. First thing I did was get allergy RAST tests some years back, not the scratch tests. With RAST panels, they put a suspicious allergen into a blood sample to see if your blood cells attack the allergen. You would not believe all the things I'm allergic to that I didn't even know about. All, dairy(butters, cakes, milk) all soy & corn( in almost every processed food and drinks) Eggs! lots of pollens & molds. Pet dander!!! Horse, dog & cat Lab said on a scale of 1-10 my pet allergy was a 12 and was like breathing battery acid into my lungs. Still have one dog but he lives outside, never comes in. Even if your not pet allergic, dog and cat fur that go outside are like feather dusters that drag pollens back into your home. Being exposed to even unknown light allergens that you might not realize, stress your immune system so you'll eventually get sicker than most people. Watch your food cravings, when you eat an allergen, part of the response your body has is to produce "endorphins", that's a super strong feel good drug custom made by you for you. A hundred times stronger that heroin some say. If you crave an apple, eat a peach. Switch to something your not crazily craving. Keep your house air filterd, my COPD elderly neighbor uses portable HEPA but when I looked at his central air house unit he only used regular cheap filters. You need to use air filters with a high MERV rating and change them often. Keep your house air a bit humid, lungs needs moisture to properly exchange air to blood, dry lungs don't work as well and get gummed up. 40% moisture is good. Stay inside on a windy day or use a mask. If you want to see what's in the wind, wait until a windy night and take a very strong single beam flashlight outside, turn it on and point it up into the sky, yes your breathing all that crap in. Other than those tips, bathe often, wash your hair as it collects dust. Keep your bed linens washed at least once a week. No pets in bedroom. Goodluck and Good Health! |

Has a ball in it, tells how hard I'm blowing by how high it rises. I kept it and it's in a box in a closet. I'll use that again if it comes to that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74289140 try the one that has 2 balls, it will help you blow harder. |
