I'm in a rural area and today it was reported that hospitals in rural areas are buying masks at hardware stores because regular inventories are depleted. Glad there are plans to step up production quickly because those in first response/medical need them. At least it's being discussed and potentially addressed because a week ago it was not. Hoping it actually happens. Be that as it may, the Surgeon General’s tweet is telling regular Americans not to buy masks because they don’t work, but in the next breath says the health care workers need them. [link to mobile.twitter.com (secure)] So which is it? Do they work or not? And why should I not buy protective masks if I am able? I’m supposed to risk my family’s health because I bought masks before they were sold out? Screw that |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77376498 United States 02/29/2020 06:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Novel Coronavirus is approx 0.12 Microns in size. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28925333 N95, N99, and N100 masks all only filter particles .3 Microns and larger. None of these masks is likely to stop inhalation of the Novel Coronavirus, although it may make you feel better about it. To be fully safe, one would need to use a full face tank respirator with pure oxygen. Well that’s good info. Why does the government have 45 million ? I guess smoke and mirrors They won't help the wearer but they will catch spittle and sneeze drops from the wearer spraying an area. |

Also if you try to quarantine them to protect society , they think it's their God given right to employ the second amendment. We have the worst kind if selfish society for an outbreak |

We have the worst kind if selfish society for an outbreak Well, people should take care of themselves. Government is not your nanny- at least not in the US. This is a free country, so yes, we are entitled to buy whatever we want, so long as its legal. I'm not sure that I've heard of any cases of a "trumptard" refusing quarantine and holding CDC at gunpoint. However, it sure is a nice spin. Rest assured, if some dude from Wuhan shows up on my doorstep coughing, sneezing, and trying to spit on me like they've been captured on video in China; I will not hesitate to use my 2nd amendment rights. If you don't believe that you should make every effort to protect yourself, you're an idiot. |

I’m supposed to risk my family’s health because I bought masks before they were sold out? Screw that Of course they work. But not 100%, and you have to know how to fit-test them properly to get the max effectiveness. If you really care about them, it's better to keep your family the hell out of public life should the situation arise that masks become necessary. If my child was still young and dependent on me NO WAY IN HELL would I let them walk around in a society that needs to wear masks. Do you really want them to be at the same risk as someone who has to treat sick people? Whatever, it's your decision. Just curious, is it that you think you need to bug out of a suburb or big city? I'm just having a really hard time understanding why you would put masks on your family. If you feel it's that dangerous wouldn't you not go to work and school? ~~*NOT* a very nice kitty!~~ "Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't live in fear." |
