I saw both. Dark and Light human-like beings. Dark I saw a long time ago when I was around 13 years old, and Light before a decade maybe, around 2012 or 2013.

Saw the hat man once many years ago while living in my condo. Had lots of strange occurrences there actually, it the hat man freaked me out. I was getting ready to try and fall asleep when I got the feeling I was being watched. I opened my eyes and there was about a 6 foot jet black shadow of a man standing at the foot of my bed watching me. Looked like a silhouette. I could see the outline clearly. He wore a fedora style hat and what looked like a trench coat. No facial features or any detail of his outfit. It was straight black but sharply outlined. I slowly pulled the covers over my head and pretended it wasn’t there, even though I knew it was. I was frozen with fear, couldn’t think of anything else to do. Next thing I know I’m waking up and it’s morning. I’ll tell you right now, I wasn’t dreaming, I was fully awake when I saw it.

Re: Has anyone ever experienced the "Hat Man"? A Dark Shadowy Image of a Man who Appears while you sleep?
Never experienced the hat man, but spending the night at my great aunt's place I woke to find a young woman in a wedding dress and veil standing at the foot of the bed, her hair, veil, and dress moving as if standing in the wind, and I heard her ask softly and sadly, her voice shaking as if she was on rhe verge if tears, "Robert, why did you leave me?" And then faded away and she was gone. The smell of jasmine from the bouquet she was holding lingered until dawn.

I didn't sleep the rest of the night. In the morning I told the family what I'd experienced, turns out my great aunt's uncle Robert had left a poor girl at the altar over a rumor that she was already pregnant by the best man, and she hung herself. The rumor was a lie started by nine other than the best man because he'd wanted her for himself, after she died he put a pistol to his head and killed himself. My great aunt showed us a picture of her uncle Robert, it was like looking at one of those pictures you take of yourself in civilwar costumes for fun, I looked just like him, and was sleeping in his old bedroom.

I still wake up from time to time to the scent of jasmine.

When I'm having bouts of insomnia I sometimes catch shadowy figures moving at the edge of my vision, but I've never seen the "Hat Man". No sleep makes you loopy.

Yep. Multiple times over the years. And, some others who usually show up in a group of 2 or 3. Kinda freaky and unnerving. My youngest son has seen the group of 3 as well...but nevertheless we are still here and in one piece.

Sleep paralysis.

Learn to fight it and it will become lucid dreaming.

You have to stay unafraid though or you will wake up and never get to the lucid part.

I had a shadow person jump on top of me one night when i was about 17.

I woke up and he was standing beside my bed. He jumped on top of me, hit me in the throat and then quickly rushed off. My ears started to ring after he hit me.

I used to see all kind of things in my bedroom like that at night. They were frightening but I was used to them. I just went back to sleep.

That is a perfect response. Once I got through the sleep paralysis, I can now switch sleeping sides and change channels, and go back to the same dream where it let off. But you have to break the paralysis first.

All ended when my Dad, finally let me change rooms with my brother.

Same with me. I wasn't paralyzed. I rolled over just like you. In fact, I woke up and I knew he was there before I rolled over. Don't ask me how, but I knew he was there even though I was facing away from him and couldn't see him.

I thought he was a robber or rapist or something. I made a plan. I'd roll over really slow like I was still asleep. When I was on my back I could jump up quick and fight him off. That's what I did. He jumped on me the second I hit flat on my back.

It was no dream, not sleep paralysis.

Nobody seems to know. But I've read that the ones with glowing red eyes are the really bad ones. The ones that will attack you.

People say it's sleep paralysis but I don't buy that. If it was a dream, at some point somebody would have to dream up a cuddly giant rabbit that just wants to give you a hug. But that's never what happens. It's always some dark creature, frightening, evil, malevolent, you can feel it. Nobody ever has a nice experience with a, "sleep paralysis," creature.

That's sleep paralysis. Even if you don't see the dark figure you can feel it's presence.

You will be able to "move" in your lucid state, but you're really just laying there.

The way I verified this was one time I thought I was looking out at my room and I could see everything in perfect detail with the lights on... but then when I finally broke out of it my lights were off.

It's def lucid dreaming/sleep paralysis.

Wait until you learn to lucid dream, out of body experiences and astral-travel comes next... although I've only had that happen maybe 5-10 times.

I assume you were paralyzed with fear ? It’s sleep paralysis and sometimes the shadow people are there !
I have had it since about 6 years old !
I had it 5 nights in a row about 15 years ago . It’s blacker than black darker than the darkness most like a moving void .
I put a Virgin Mary statue in front of the house and one in my bedroom . No more problems
Four years ago I painted the bedroom and left the statue in the garage . It happened and was one of the most terrifying experiences .
I don’t know why it only attacks certain people doctors call it sleep paralysis .
A medical condition . It’s the devil ! It’s horrifying and real !

YES! Yes I have!! Way back in 1999 or 2000, I had a horrific case of pneumonia. It almost took me out of this world. I was sleeping in another room until the illness passed because I didn't want to make my boyfriend, now husband of 19 years, sick. I was delirious to a certain extent, I'll admit, but I know damn well what I saw.

My door was opened, and I saw a dark figure standing in the doorway. I said, I'm fine hun, just coughing it up, go back to bed." I went back to sleep. The next morning, I woke up and remembered, HE HAD SPENT THE NIGHT AT HIS FRIEND'S HOUSE.

Two days later I barely survived an asthma attack. I know what it feels like to die of suffocation. Real panicky and awful at first, but then very calm and vibrate-y...like taking a nitrous hit.

When Art Bell started talking about shadow people a couple years later, nearly drove my truck off the road. Think I told that story on the air actually.
