1st thread. In-laws onboard ship off San Fran.
I’ve been using GLP to keep current on covid 19. This is the first I’ve seen of anyone On gip knowing someone personally in quarantine and or possibly being tested.

One of my wife’s aunts passed at the beginning of February. We traveled to see my wife’s family and attend the funeral. We live in Alabama, my in laws live in hilton head and the rest of her family in South Georgia. We stayed with my in-laws on feb 8th and 9th and they told us they were going on a cruise to Hawaii with another of my wife’s aunts and other friends. I tried to discourage my mother in law from getting on a plane and especially getting on a cruise ship because of what was going on with the diamond princess. But they said they were still going on the trip.

From my mother in-laws FB page, they landed in San Fran on feb 20th. They boarded the ship feb 21st. The docked in Kauai on the 26th. Went to Pearl Harbor on the thur 27 (both in-laws are retired military.) Maui on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday she posted “the ocean is very rough today. It sounds like the ship is tearing apart...water coming in a lot of rooms, supposed to be like this until tomorrow afternoon. Thankfully we don’t have motion sickness.”

My wife talked to both of them when they were in Hawaii, I did not. But I did see the post my mother-in-law made about the water coming in the ship and told my wife I thought it was weird. My wife tried calling them Monday, Tuesday and yesterday but couldn’t get an answer. I told her its probably cause they are at sea.

This morning my wife and I were driving separately to our business and at 8am I heard on the radio a cruise ship was quarantined off San Fran and had come from Hawaii. I pulled up FB and my mother in law had posted “Just got a notice from the ship. We are skipping Ensenada and headed to San Fran two days early. CDC is investigating a small cluster of Coronavirus cases linked to the cruise ship before ours, on the same ship.”
Then she had posted a link to the article.

My wife tried calling them both and texting them both but still could not get an answer. At 10am and my wife received a FB message from my mother in law saying they do not have cell service and can’t text. She says they are okay and she has a runny nose, she gets sick quite often. We just received that one message. I saw on FB where she responded to questions from her friends and she says that she doesn’t believe that they will be tested. She said that someone came to their room to ask them questions about their health. That’s all I know. I can see that a lot of people are commenting on her facebook posts, I’m sure they have a lot of messages to answer. My wife is one of 6 kids.

My in-laws are both retired army, My father in law was wounded In Vietnam and then worked an office job where he coordinated moving military vehicles, like in convoys I think. After his retirement he’s helped a lot of veterans get their full benefits from the government. He’s a great guy.

I’ll try to keep this updated as we hear from them. My wife is worried sick. Sorry if there’s a lot of grammatical errors, I didn’t take much time to read back over it.

strange that she could send messages or post on facebook, but no where else. wonder if that's a means of censoring if need be.

Cruise to hell!

I'm so sorry for your in-laws op.

Prayers and good wishes.

The lack of contact is interesting. Where are all the testimonials from Seattle and the other cruise ships?

Every now and then I see a quick tv interview via Skype and that's it.

It's stupid to hold it out at sea because others who had been on board the same ship at the same time as the deseased already got off and got back to their lives, spreading covid as they went.

At 3:30 central there was an announcement for passengers to return to their cabin and that food would be delivered to the cabins. This shit should have already happened imo. They also heard that tests were being sent to the ship.

Re: 1st thread. In-laws onboard ship off San Fran.
My wife just received a call from her father. The cruise line is providing free phone calls for people to talk to people off the ship. It was not from their cell phones. The phone call was breaking up. They were eating when an announcement told them to go back to their rooms. And Stay at least 6 feet from everyone. Follow safety protocols. Menus would be delivered to the rooms for them to order room service. He said 100 or hundreds, my wife is not sure, of test kits were used today. They were not part of the test but he assumed it was people that were on the previous cruise but stayed on for the next cruise. He said they were told the results would be know in 6-8 hours. They said something about providing credit for the cruise or room service, my wife didn’t understand.

My wife is really upset.

They must be at least ten miles offshore to have zero cell reception. That's pretty surprising and the water can get rough outside the Golden Gate.

The only other option is to quarantine them all somewhere. That’s a lot of people!

ABC news reported that the test results will be back tonight and the decision on whether to quarantine the ship will be made shortly thereafter.

The potentially good news is that a runny nose isn't a symptom of Covid-19. She probably just picked up a cold virus. Cruise ships have a lot of pathogens.

If she had a dry cough that is getting worse, that would be cause for concern.

She likely wouldn't have symptoms yet anyway, it could be several weeks before symptoms if infected.
