At local emergency in isolation room
Husband came home from work with major pains in his abdomen . After not being able to subside the pain we decided to take him to emerge . He is not one to complain of pain and has a very high tolerance . They admitted him right away and dosed him with pain medication and gravel . They think it is kidney stones .so they gave him a screen to pee through and took a urine sample and did some blood work and said they will do a CT scan of his abdomen
My local hospital is usually packed with patients waiting for hours to be seen because they are usually over crowded . I saw entire wards of empty beds with nurse stations manned with nurses with no one to care for . This is most likely because people in my city are scared to catch the Coronavirus .
Here is the strange thing . They put us in an isolation room ? Why on earth would they put us in here for a kidney stone if entire wards are empty ? Mabey this is a new precaution the province is taking ? I’m not sure . I do know as soon as I realized I grabbed the disinfectant wipes and started going crazy wiping everything down ! I’m trying to stay calm in here but I can’t help but think that someone who they thought had the virus was housed in this room.... so far my province has had 0 confirmed cases but NB heath care is terribly disorganized and underfunded . So I would imagine they prob only tested them once and let them go .
I’m staying in here with my husband tonight as they have admitted him and I won’t leave him .

Do you happen to have any thieves oil? If so, definitely use it!

Hope your husband feels better fast and that you get out of there soon!

If he has kidney stones they shouldn't be giving him gravel, that's just clog the pipes up more.

Hope he feels better soon.

Doctor said it’s only 10% likely it is kidney stones by urine sample . CT scan booked for the morning . Dr thinks it could be diverticulitis or bowel obstruction . Going to be a long night . Good chance to catch up on all the Doom lol

I think it’s to limit any possible exposure. You and your husband are being isolated to protect you from being exposed to the virus.
Until they receive their first infected patient it’s a smart way to utilize the room.

Listen, I know FOR A FACT that our folks have been prepping for this shit for the last 3+ weeks.

Oh, IT'S GONNA HAPPEN! But, in the mean time, and during.... People are going to have appendicitis, Pancreatitis, Heart attacks, strokes, and THE COMMON COLD.

There's gonna be medical emergencies that are NOT related to the "True emergency".

Suffice it to say, if I have an abcesed tooth or fucking food poisoning, I'd much rather be ISOLATED from the other shit going around.

Count your blessings.

Re: At local emergency in isolation room
X-ray was completed Dr said nothing on there looks abnormal . He's sleeping soundly on dilaudid.
I live in a city with 2 hospitals and a population of about 145 000 people . I am wondering if the hospitals haven’t designated other sections of the hospital and zoned them off specifically for potential Covid 19 cases . It wouldn’t make sense to put us in the only isolation room in the emergency department . What would happen if a suspected case came in ? Where would they put them ? Makes me feel a little better that my city has taken precautions . However they did allow a school trip to depart to Italy as planned yesterday . so I still have my doubts about the competence of my municipal government .

KIDNEY STONE VETERAN !!! right here.

ok the isolate room maybe for caution of virus but also Kidney stones can make a person scream/wail, cry/ and want to break a handrail loose.

ALSO very important here. The pain I had during all of those ordeals wasn't really touched by the harder drugs but more Standard Advil/Ibuprofen. Apparently it gets into the organs better.

After keep lemon juice and olive oil in the diet.

God is it awful...I feel for him and you watching.

2 out of 3 times they didn't see my stones but knew.

The pain in the belly, back, waistband area is temporary as it indicates the movement ripping you up.

hang in there and do no underestimate lemons or even lemonade as soon as you can.

Best of luck

Thanks for all the kind words ! Hopefully he won’t need surgery but from what I’ve researched online it’s usually necessary. Dr said they are keeping him in again tonight. They have put us in the Observation ward

Re: At local emergency in isolation room
Husband has now been admitted on the 4th floor of the hospital . Surgery is most likely going to happen . It’s nice to be out of emergency . The nurse who admitted us into his new room asked us if we were in contact with anyone who had the coronavirus or if we had travelled outside of Canada recently . They didn’t ask us any of that in emergency . We are in the pre/post surgery wing which I’m assuming would be far from any coronavirus suspect cases. Looks like we’re here for the weekend . I’ll go home tonight and shower and grab a clean set of clothes for him a toothbrush and slippers . We requested a private room as our insurance covers it , however we were told because of over crowding they cannot accommodate . So we are in a semi - private room (2ppl) which is much better than emergency.

Which hospital? In Vancouver one of the main hospitals has a Covid-19 patient in it, so I would understand if that hospital was totally empty.

If they put you in a room, make sure it's not a gas chamber. Make sure they don't lock you in there.

I was gonna say, if he is acting like he is giving birth to an elephant, he has a kidney stone. Fucking thing the size of a grain of sand can make a grown man into the biggest damn baby.

That diverticulitis is nothing screw with, either though. Prayers for your husband and you.

My local hospital has isolation rooms (including waiting rooms) in the ER. The rooms are ventilated with outside air, etc. They use these rooms during flu season for people who have illnesses other than the flu, or who may be immune compromised, in order to help them avoid contracting the flu from other people who come into the ER. Having gone through a time when I was immune compromised because of an extended illness, I really appreciated this practice. My guess is that this is what the hospital was doing for your husband. Hope you get good news and treatment after the scan. Best to your husband!
