Anonymous Coward User ID: 77566697 United States 03/06/2020 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m near Austin, TX. My 16 year old began having flu-like symptoms last Thursday....fever, headache, muscle cramps. Took her to urgent care that day and they ran flu and strep tests. Both were negative. They did ask about travel, but she hasn’t been anywhere. Sent her home with a five day course of Tamiflu. My 10 year old got sick the next day ...fever, headache, muscle aches, but also tested negative for flu and strep. They sent her home with a five day prescription of Tamiflu. Back to the 16 year old. She began running higher fever Saturday afternoon and developed a slight cough. Cough was worse on Sunday. Ten year old also had slight cough on Sunday. 14 year old began running fever. Monday, took the 16 year old to the doctor (her PCP this time) concerned about pneumonia. They NEVER asked about travel and said her lungs sounded clear, but she was dehydrated. Told her to drink water. Also repeated strep test (negative). Gave her a steroid and said that she should be better by the next day. Didn’t want to do an X-ray because they didn’t want to expose a 16 y.o. to that much radiation, even though her cough was severe at that point. Her fever broke Tuesday, but still had a bad cough. 10 year old and 14 year old both fever free also. Wednesday, took the 10 & 14 year old to school because they were fever free for 24 hours. 16 year old stayed home and spiked another fever. Called the MD and they called in an X-ray. Had to call them at 4:55 pm for results. She had pneumonia with “moderate pleural effusion “. They called in a prescription of amoxicillin and told me to watch her for breathing difficulty and if any, take her to the ER immediately. Yesterday, still running fever, no appetite and not drinking. Cough was awful. Took her to the ER last night for dehydration. The ER was full of adults and kids in face masks waiting to be seen. Admission lady asked about travel . I answered no. She asked if we had been around anyone with Covid19. I said “how would I know? I don’t think so”. Filled out admit form and stated reason for visit was “diagnosed pneumonia and worried about dehydration”. We waited five minutes before they called her to get vitals. They took her straight back to the ER and hooked her up to monitors. I asked if I needed to put a mask on her and they said no. Both the nurse and doctor attending her were not wearing masks. In fact, only saw one doctor in a mask our whole time there. They repeated the X-ray, did blood work and hooked her to a bag of fluid. They also repeated the flu test even though I told them she’d finished her five day Tamiflu regimen and it didn’t help(negative again). X-ray came back and they confirmed pneumonia and effusion. Recommended she continue with antibiotics. Her color and pulse rate were better after fluid, so they sent us home. Today, she says she feels better than she has all week. I was just beside myself over the lack of concern all medical personnel showed in the last week and just the impression that everyone was more worried about it being the flu than anything else. I fear we’re in trouble with Covid19 if this is how our medical personnel are acting. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77566697 You will never know what it was, but considering how contagious Covid-19 is, I would not rule out it was. This virus is much more spread than acknowledged, and just because most cases are mild it is going greatly underreported. The problem is that precisely because most cases are mild, the contagious is spreading unchecked. All great truths begin as Blasphemies. G.B.S. GLP is like a diamond mine of information, in the sense that you have to shovel mountains of crap to find the diamonds, but it's still worth the pain. |

I know this only causes pain to hear, but the policy is "don't test don't tell". They are not doing tests for 'community spread' cases unless they can prove that they were in contact with a known case. It is their protocol. Yah, it's all messed up. Other than that, I don't know what to say except I feel for your family. Perhaps mass dose vit-C but make sure you take flavonoids with it which occurs naturally with vitamin C in fruits, etc. Now, Vit C is produced synthetically and they do not have the naturally occuring flavonoids. I buy rutin , which is a flavonoid. I did this after reading clinical studies on it. The difference with/without rutin on treating virus' and pathogens if night and day. I only take a 'drop' size level spoon full with 1000mg of C three times a day. You can buy the mini size spoons online. 'Drop' is the very smallest spoon size. Good luck to you and your family. Why don't you go ahead and include D.C. in that... Yeah, it's far from the ideal locale but it's also historic as fuck. Bethlehem Steel practically built 20th century America. Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State building (and many other early skyscrapers), not to mention producing a naval destroyer's worth of steel every day at the height of WWII. Respect. |

Strep C is not as likely to cause complication as Group A Strep, or GAS but it still can. They recommended antibiotics altho non-symptomatic at that point.
