My d.i.l.s both work around people and I babysit, so maybe any attempt to self isolate is futile, and I need to just take my antiviral supplements and not even bother trying to self isolate. So what about you? Are you self isolating, or thinking about it? 5 Stars OP! Im gonna start self isolating right now, im hopping on my bike and heading into town gonna rip around grab a bite and then enjoy a cool 50 degree mountain ride home. Just me and my dogs tonight! Would you shop late at night when stores are not crowded? We are here. I had to go out today for about 2 hours worth of running errands. Entering a store, touching nothing except what I was there to acquire... hand sanitizing and wiping the cart with the anti-microbial wipes supplied... It was going pretty well until at the last place a guy in the next checkout lane sneezed... twice. I'm not going out again unless we really need something and by then I'll be beyond worrying about what people think about me wearing an N95. You can't stay home when you're sneezing or coughing? Get used to seeing people defending themselves from your thoughtlessness. I arranged to telecommute for work and I'm profoundly grateful to have that option. He said the tendency of a virus like this is to mutate into a less lethal form. The 1918 Spanish flu was unusual in that the second wave was worse. Odds are this won't be as bad to catch next winter. So by all means try not to get it this spring. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. |

They will be lurking all over the frozen food for years unless they totally disinfect. The only hope you have is do NOT lrave your house. And even that wont work in the end cause the spores..0.3 microns...are AIRBORNE and can travel on the wind for miles. Sorry to say this but EVERYONE on the planet WILL EVENTUALLY CATCH IT.. EVERYONE... Wow...I didn't think about the frozen food freezers extending the shelf-life of the virus. That's a bummer. Also, there is a thread from someone trying to be funny tonight on the board who says: "Don't POP BUBBLE WRAP!" The gist is that the bubble wrap coming from China--or any infected area--pumps their environmental air into the little bumps held by the plastic and if it is popped and has the virus in there, you could get it. It sounds funny but it really is NOT that far fetched. Very concerning. Starting to shop at the very small mom and pop stores rather than the big grocery outlets...seems like that COULD help limit the exposure of products to hundreds of people. Interesting thread. As of now, no official infections in my state. Don't need to shop. Planned and acted in advance. Working the issue of mail now - PO box versus local mail box. Worse case - simply ignore it all. Bills - few and working to pay them on-line or drop off payment in PO external drop box. The only risk - car trouble during the short run. The risk - low - just bought a new highly reliable vehicle as part of my planning and action. Good luck. |

Oh, and take care of my sons which all I have to do is give one of them money, and give the other space to 'do his thing' and we're all good... What was the question again??? Would you shop late at night when stores are not crowded? I own and live in an adult family home (a private home that houses 6 elderly and vulnerable adult residents). I mass shopped since mid January seeing this thing as a possibility of reaching Washington state where I live because tons of people and Asians fly into Seattle from China daily. Since there were no serious measures to prevent the illness from coming where I live, I have supplies for our home to last us possibly 6 plus months withh b out having to leave the house. As soon as our local Whatcom County health Dept declares there is a confirmed case in my county, (which probably will be in the next day or two because there are 10 plus pending cases) we will not have anyone coming or going. Already all our residents have cancelled their appointments for the month of March. Our activities leaders have been let go until further notice. We have three live in staff counting me who can work round the clock without leaving the premises so I plan to let my one hourly pay caregiver go due to possible exposure to our residents since she will be working at a large skilled nursing facility. I hope this will keep us all safe under my roof. lookin up |

Would you shop late at night when stores are not crowded? We have been self isolating for over a month now. Finished major prepping on Feb 14th. When we go out now we wear gloves, masks, goggles. We bleach wash all produce for 5-30 minutes depending on what it is, and we wipe all packaged goods with clorox wipes and let dry for 5 minutes before taking inside. We are taking major precautions, but not leaving the house more than once every 2 weeks for basic groceries, gas, propane. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78560562 We are retired and am in the same mindset. I've been having lunch and get-togethers this week with our best friends and family with the idea that we might not see them for a while. The closest "test positive' person is more than 300 miles away so I'm chancing going out this week but probably for the last time. We have about 4 months of food in the house (for two people) and meds and such. When we need to restock I plan to use the "deliver to your car" services offered by Walmart, Target, and Publix. I've set up a decontamination station on our back porch to sanitize all of the food and packages. Let's hope this will be enough! |

But I do have things I need to leave the house for a few times a month. I wish I could just remain isolated, but there are things requiring my physical presence once in a while. I'm not afraid of this virus. If others have survived, I will too. I'm into my 60s, but I'm still healthy and strong. I just don't want to have to get sick. I've not had the flu take me down since 1991. I particularly hate the congestion caused by being sick, and that scares me more. I can't sleep when I can't breath easily, comfortably, and that leads to mystery. Has anyone tried doing shrooms while fighting this virus? Did it help? |

It does scare me that I can lose so much that means everything to me. I think that is also why people are panicking.
