Quoting: John Titor 911 I was an EXTREMELY PRECOCIOUS child, very much advanced for my age in both physical and mental growth. I was ALREADY getting served alcohol, in bars and liquor stores at age 12! Not that that's bad or good, it just was. I was already 5'12" tall then! I have friends who to this day still do not understand how I did it. Suffice it to say that I was a responsible kid as well and did not overindulge. I would buy beer for other, much older 18 year olds, since alcohol was restricted to 21 year olds in my state then, but not now. I lived the dance era known as "the disco era," which as most of us healthy guys saw it as "a chance to score with chicks." That's why young men and old men alike braved the shaky social risk of actually wearing the correct garb, going to a disco-theque then, with one's girlfriend on their arm AND DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY. It was a lot of fun. I miss it. Every generation misses it's heydey. 1978 was mine. That's all. Giorgio Morodor's "Midnight Express Theme," from the movie and also "Coast To Coast A.M.'s" theme, since 1989! Amazing. |

Other notable events: the Afghanistan civil war started, Jim Jones killed his flock of moon eyed socialists, Khmir Rouge was stacking bodies in SE Asia, Iran was on the verge of revolution. The first ‘GPS” Navstar was launched. The Ford Pinto was recalled. Both Ted Bundy and Gacy serial murderers are arrested. TV sucked except for WKRP, SNL, and Monty Python. The notorious Star Wars Christmas Special was released and then sent to Capone’s vault. Annie Hall was best picture, Superman was the film to see. Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast. If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools. — Plato “AI is kind of a fancy thing, first of all it’s two letters. It means artificial intelligence.” Kamala Harris VPOTUS |

I remember going to the drive-in, and the movies, but TV was very low on everyone's list of things to do. |

I remember reading books, actual books. Seeking them out at my pace, not the world's. Men wore tight-fitting pants, even 2" heels. Nik Nik shirts on the guys, short dresses for women. Good times. |

Still remember the kids driving their muscle cars to school and doing donuts in the parking lot... Yes, there was disco; but I preferred Rock n Roll. The music was amazing back then. A particular bar I enjoyed had 2 stages with a view of the Atlantic Ocean. Multiple bands would play while various types of boats and speed boats would dock... Lots of great times... |

Just the other day I told my husband if I could return to any year, it would be 1974. Before all this noisy, disruptive technology, we ate real food, listened to real music, read real books. We enjoyed fresh air, went for walks without worrying a serial killer would grab us, played outside until we dropped and then slept very soundly. I miss those days. |

You're right - and I do remember my parents struggling in this economy. It actually ruined their marriage. They never recovered, always behind from that point on until Mom died in 2000. These were not easy times either, but times were quieter, and I think that's what we're nostalgic for. |

But today's America, although it has technical marvels that were limited to sci-fi novels in the past, is a hard, cold, uncaring society. It's a George Soros and Michael Bloomberg combined with a Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton scamming everyone with false platitudes and hollow compassion. |
