STOCK MARKET WATCH--Circuit Breakers-- Tue Mar 10 -- DOW went negative, now moving back up

The NYSE opens at 9:30 am EST and closes at 4:00 pm

The most reported and most followed is the DOW Ind. Average.

The DOW closed at 23,851.02 Monday.

If the markets plunge to certain levels, trading will be
halted for a time.
This is commonly known as "circuit breakers".

The circuit breakers are triggered by a decline in the S&P 500,
not the DOW, although both indexes usually rise and fall in
very similar percentages.

The S&P 500 closed at 2,754.65 Monday

..."If the index falls by 7% below its previous close, this is
known as a Level 1 decline. A Level 2 decline refers to a
drop of 13%, whereas a Level 3 decline refers to a drop of 20%.

Level 1 or 2 circuit breakers halt trading on all exchanges
for 15 minutes, unless they are triggered at or after 3:25 PM,
in which case trading is allowed to continue. Level 3 circuit
breakers halt trading for the remainder of the trading day
(9:30 AM to 4:00 PM)."...

Level 2 : -358.10 = 2,396.55
Level 3 : -550.93 = 2,203.72

Expectation of approximate DOW levels at triggers:

Level 1 : -1,669.57 = 22,181.45
Level 2 : -3,100.63 = 20,750.39
Level 3 : -4,770.20 = 19080.82


Dow futures were up over 1,000 before open, moved into negative territory,
but positive again as of 11:50am
