Here is some links for all the fruitcakes out there that have no clue about this subject. And OBVIOUSLY if someone comes in and completes the questionnaire and isn't qualified based upon them answering that they have been out of the Country and possibly has the coronavirus then they would be likely disqualified even though there is nothing that says it can be passed in a blood transfusion.

Some people on here seriously need common sense. Fast. Its really frightening....Not even kidding anymore.

But are they checking for Covid-19? Doesn’t say so at your links.

Here's another link....

I don't know why you think everyone is lying about this and you know things you don't know....maybe a mistrust issue in your past? I don't know, but come on here - you aren't stupid you have to realize that respiratory virus' can't be transferred through blood. That's not what a respiratory virus is. Coronavirus is a RESPIRATORY virus - its not like aids or something, or a sexual disease. Why else do you think people are quarantining themselves and told to wash hands and disinfect like crazy? Do you really believe that all the ones who got the virus touched someone else's blood? Really?

I'll ask again - do you know what a respiratory virus is? You don't and you should learn before you make assumptions when talking about giving/receiving blood.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78580158

I do and while generally respiratory viruses are not passed via blood, Covid-19 is proving to be quite different. Even the experts don’t know yet.

You read at that link everything I just told you - i don't know why you are still confused. Its not different - there are precautions, hence the questionnaire and the 28 day leeway for donations, - its all online at the links you didn't read.
There are precautions for giving blood when you have the flu or a fever as well, and they don't let you donate until you are well, but that's common sense.
Have you ever given blood? You fill out a very lengthy questionnaire and they do tests on you before you donate to make sure you are healthy enough to donate - then afterwards they test the blood for everything at that link I showed you because those are all things you can get through your blood. If a person has those their blood will NOT be used and the donor will be contacted about the positive test results.

I understand everyone is freaking out right now but some things are just common sense - if something is respiratory then it can't be passed through blood. That's why when they test blood they don't test for the common cold. Colds can't be passed through blood. Ever.

That's not your only question - your main question is to question everyone that isn't freaking about things they are VERY well aware of. If you want to scare yourself to death then go ahead. It won't help a thing. You aren't listening to reason, you take one line out of an entire page and you focus on it because it feeds your fear. That is what you are doing and only YOU can stop it.
Being cautious is one thing, taking it to levels you and others on this board is another. Ya all are just feeding the fire. You are doing the bidding and you are doing it for free.

covid tests r bs anyway
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78167731

Not BS, it takes time for field trials on any thing to see its effectiveness...geezzz you people think instant results are well instantaneous they are not.

We live in, a scientific and medical guessing game of understanding with much of the world around us.

If, this thing really has HIV woven into it, and a less then a fluid exchange delivery mechanism built in like Corona and now transmission possibly air.

IDK

Has me, thinking of a great many things right now.

So I saw a bunch of news stories calling for blood donors due to the Covid-19 crisis. Did a little googling and so far all I can find is that they’re turning donors away that look sick. No testing.

they don't test people for corona virus when they donate blood. They only test for HIV / Hep C before you give blood.

That’s the point. According to the FDA, they don’t know if it’s transmissible via blood and yet there is only basically the same screening process the airports have been using which misses all the non symptomatic carriers.

And you do realize that this virus has DNA of HIV/AIDS, don’t you? Which IS transmitted through blood? And you do also realize it doesn’t just attack the lungs it also attacks the Central Nervous System and Brain!? They don’t know enough about the mechanisms of this virus to say it can’t be transmitted through blood. It’s too new and how would they even know ? Do you think they’ve been keeping decent records on this?! Are you trusting the CDC?! As in : Can’t Detect Coronavirus??

If I remember correctly, during that Ebola minor outbreak a couple years ago, didn’t they take blood from some guy who had Ebola and fought it off successfully and used the immunity he developed to give it to other victims of Ebola?

And didn’t he have a certain blood type that allowed him to do that successfully?
