Re: I don't understand the fear I am witnessing
People are anxious and scared, why? I don't feel any sense of panic or urgency. Sure we are jam packed with food, I accidentally bought some plenty pack of toilet paper a couple weeks ago and have only gone through 2 rolls since then. I didn't even have to spend a lot on essentials.

What is it that people are afraid of? Some lady at the food market I went to was just walking up and down the isles, not looking at anything except what was in front of her with 1 package of tp in her cart. She looked completely lost and scared all red in the face and smelled like alcohol and cigarettes.

I’m always buying lots of foods, one of the reasons why my husband complains about... I don’t like going to the stores, the energy is too strong for me. I just check my tp stash, we have 82 rolls... s226

Oh, my... poor ole lady. I feel so sad for her...but at the same time is depressing to see them in that state. The worse thing she could do is drinking and smoking. She’s just weakening her lungs, that’s bad!

Not really. cigarettes ward off certain diseases (they keep your lung surfaces covered in mucus) and alcohol in your mouth will help kill viruses.

You don’t understand the gravity of the stituation. Imagine every bed in every hospital filled with a victim. That is what the Italians are experiencing.
Imagine the stores being empty for months because of CV and supply chain issues. Imagine most people being unemployed for months. There’s plenty to be concerned about.

I get the impression these people don't trust in God. Is this tribulations for people? It seems to be unbearable for some.

Maybe they have never had to trust in God before. Most have lived very comfortable lives. Or have had the governments take care of them.

Fuck fear.
It's no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

I’d say your current position is = to your fear.

Nurses and doctors are probably pretty scared. My husband HAS to work and he flies to and walks through so many different airports, we’re frightened.

If you have control of your situation, your risk is lower than those with no control. Just my opinion.

According to the New York Times, the CDC is projecting that up to 214 million Americans could eventually become infected…

Between 160 million and 214 million people in the United States could be infected over the course of the epidemic, according to one projection. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.

That is in America.

That is from the CDC.

Worst case but now you understand the fear.

Don't fall for the flu comparisons.

Research Italy.

The U.S. is possibly about one-to-two weeks away, if not
sooner, from being where Italy is now.

Coronavirus in Italy is like ‘a world war’ as death toll soars

Why is Italy the immediate "go-to" for comparison? Why not Mexico, or some other country?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78590108

Simple.

It's been spreading there a lot longer, and a lot more is
known about Italy compared to many other places.

One can look to Iran and China as well, but those are often
dismissed due to being more 'foreign,' among other issues.

And still they can easily go buy toilet paper...
 Quoting: R...

Those who are prepared do not have to go out into the
panicked, irrational, and possibly infected crowds at all.
What's the downside?

Those who were gradually preparing for weeks did not cause
the shortages.

Shortages are being caused by those who did not previously
prepare. (And the 'scalpers'.)

Re: I don't understand the fear I am witnessing
Remember the End of the World Day one March years ago?

I saw people I knew to be above average intelligence and not particularly religious throwing off a manic vibe— laughing too loudly, probably feeling dissociated and unreal. There was no reason to believe it was the end of the world— some old coot of a preacher said it was— but some people became alarmed— and emotions— limbic states— pass through peiooe like wildfire.

I’d trained to stay grounded and centered in real crisis. I do it well. I still felt the emotional tide of the grocery store that day.

They had a young cashier terrified. When he sensed I was normal he teared up and asked me if the world was going to end. I told him it would not. Tomorrow would come as usual.

Another time in the same grocery store a Colorado snow storm kept trucks from delivering produce. After two or three days snowed in I Wanted to see people and buy salad greens, dug out the car with help from laughing neighbors.. it was festive.

In the store the produce bins showed their metal bottoms! Trucks had arrived and more would follow. The snow was cleared and no longer falling. Everyone else had come out for Starbucks and salad greens too. Still, it was freaky and I put seven bunches of romaine and all the radishes in my cart — grab it while you can!— then regained my senses and bought or bunch of romaine and one bunch of radishes. Still looking at the empty bins made me WANT to grab it all and RUN! KNOWING tomorrow the store would be perfectly normal.

Thats describing normal situations— a silly joke hoax and a snowstorm in Colorado

This one is more serious. There is a REAL (manufactured) crisis. Someone is manipulating fear— maybe by manipulating shortages— maybe crashing the economy.

Some are less conscious than others. They pick up the energy of crowds and don’t know how to ground and discharge it. They act automatically, sometimes bizarrely, a drunken chain smoking zombie out buying toilet paper not entirely sure why fits that category I think.

It's the unknown and the mixed messages folks are getting from what they consider authority figures. One virologist says to have three months of supplies so you can practice social distancing and then some infectious disease expert says settle down there's nothing to worry about.

The lack of a solid opinion on this is creating the panic. People that don't see potential issues early and stock up over time now think they've waited too late and are in panic mode.
Vindicate me, God, and defend my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue me from the deceitful and unjust man.

They are walking around with 1 tiny roll of toilet paper, seeing the shelves empty and other people with carts full of food prepping and they can't afford to buy anything. They are feeling scared because they are feeling like they are f*cked.

Re: I don't understand the fear I am witnessing
It's not just fear of one's own death (unlikely for most), but death of family and friends. It is also justified fear of a domestic/world economic collapse that we all know is built as a house of cards. It is fear of the unknown of how long people will be forced to stay in isolation from all of society (not a problem for hardcore glp'rs). One big event, such as this, could collapse it all in one fell swoop and lead to long-term despair that makes the 1929-31 era look like a party at Disneyland.

The current numbers on COVID-19 are not even worth talking about or referencing in regards to the virulence/potency of this disease. The fear is in the potential of what this particular strain of disease is capable of. In regards to this event, lend your ears only to people who live in the realm of science in virology and/or epidemiology with no political agenda in either direction. That means drown out 99% of the barking idiots on your television set.

Yes. A lot of people are/were not capable to prepare because they are just not as rich as all the 'preppers'. Of course one can prepare gradually, one roll of toilet paper at a time (that is not even possible) ha!

I understand preppers with all bunkers and such, but think it is very egoistical to buy all shelves empty for themselves.

Situations in a lot of countries changed so rapidly that not everyone (perhaps only on GLP) was aware enough so soon.

Yes I am afraid too. That it wil get worse. That it will only be 'ME ME!' More than it ever was...

Yeah, I am late to this thread but, we have serious problems ahead.

Everyone calm down...more people die from falling off a ladder every year than this Virus has produced.

But, let's shut down the world.

Buckle up, the NWO is coming with a vengeance. We are, just in the way.

It's not so much the fear of lack of sanitizer, food, and toilet paper.

It's really about Fear of The Unknown.

There are so many questions swirling.

The principal one being: Why the hell are they doing this? This meaning: shutdowns, quarantines, stock fluctuations, etc.

People are afraid because deep down inside they know something is brewing, and it's bigger than any of us can imagine IMO.

In two weeks everything will be back to normal, but there is an impending financial collapse coming on the horizon. It’s been a fake and propped up economy for many years, and Trump is about to eat crow for touting it the last 3 years. The gov’t is already swindling money with these emergency budget bills being passed. The virus is just a guise and front for the financial collapse.
