Here's another perspective: children are ALWAYS learning. They don't need endless assignments and worksheets and busy work in order to learn. In fact, too much of that bs hinders true learning! These are interesting times. SAVOR AND ENJOY the time you are spending with your children at home! Play games, watch movies together, go over family photos, sit together and read books. Really get to know your children outside the realm of authoritarian parenting and factory schooling and just telling them what to do all the time. It's possible we could be starving in our homes soon--don't let their lives end with worksheets and busy work from a system intented to process children into mindless worker drones! Sincerely, A veteran homeschooler |

Once they master that, it becomes a creative exercise. They don't feel like it's school work, their help is welcome and needed, and it's a life skill they desperately need. Gardening is another good and similarly cross-disciplined subject that can get as complicated as is age appropriate at the higher levels. |

Even better if the child or adult finds a bird house, bird feeder, plant container, or other plans online. Researching, measuring, planning, organizing, and making a project can include english, math, science, and whatever else you want to include. Planting seeds in small peat pots, planting peas outdoors can be done in most places now. Spading and making a small garden or flower area to enjoy all summer. A ball. Much science there, along with a board to roll it down, a basket to toss it it, and imagination. They'll figure it out. Simple recipes. Look some up together. Measuring cups, spoons, mixers, sifters, and ingredients. Once again, math, science, reading, health, safety. Large index cards for a child to write their recipe to save. A large recipe box or photo album to store them. I'll stop now. I get carried away. Could be a nightmare, or it could be one of the most pleasant and memorable times of a family's life. |
