Why is Sweden's infection/death rate much lower than Italy's?

I am living in Italy, where my wife, Callista, is the ambassador to the Holy See.

I have watched first-hand as the Italian government has worked hard to contain the coronavirus by imposing strong public health measures to try to get the epidemic under control. These measures will lead to significant economic challenges.

As I write:

All schools are closed in all of Italy.
All churches are closed (including St. Peter's Basilica).
All weddings and funerals are postponed.
All restaurants are closed.
In fact, all stores except grocery stores and pharmacies are closed.
People are urged to work from home unless they work in special designated factories

A bunch of elderly who die of pneumonia, cancer, heart disease, and dementia will be listed as covid-19 casualties.

So just deduct from how many normally die.
If 1500 normally die and 1502 die = 2 fukn c v deaths.

Italy makes so much money off Tourism. i'd think this is like gettin nuked if the whole tourism industry is completely shut down for months

Thanks for the reply. I understand. I just wanted to point out that some people can end up in a shelter because of other people's bad choices for them.

As an aside, I have always found it bizarre how people (general society) will blame the victim if they stay with an abuser but will condemn us for a wide berth when our abusers share DNA.

I finally ended the charade about 2.5 years ago after ending up in the hospital from three relatives attacking me. That is when I moved to a shelter until I could find a solution that didn't involve me being a verbal/physical punching bag. I survived.

It hasn't been easy. But, it hasn't been the worse ever either. For the first time in my life, I am unreachable (to them) and I'm the safest I've ever been.

Same here in Seattle. Presumably we had weeks and weeks of unchecked community spread, yet no exponential deaths like in NYC (adjusted for population) ???

I heard on the radio yesterday that the vast majority of the Italian deaths were over age 80.
Can anyone verify that.

They have health care, if you are sick they give you some place to get well you don't need to do it on your own when you feel sick.
