Hi to my Bay Area neighbors! I can say that amongst my friends, we are all actually grateful for the shelter in place ordinance. Too many people were just going about their business as if nothing could ever involve them, personally.

Yes, Bay Area entitled liberals (actually some of the conservatives too) love to bitch and moan about their meaningless little problems on things like Next Door. The young and rich won't handle all this too well, I don't think. The older and rich will bemoan the loss of their wealth, and they'll also probably fall apart to some degree.

But, as for us working-class oldtimers in the Bay, we've been through hard times before -- the AIDS epidemic, the'89 earthquake, the riots in '92, recessions, the dot-com boom and bust, just to name a few -- and we'll be ok, psychologically and pragmatically. Yes, there will be rioting, though we've had that before -- and those of us who stuck around learned to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.

This level of pestilence is unknown to my generation, though it does remind me a lot of the early days of AIDS, when we didn't know how it was spread, and there was a lot of fear. We will lose loved ones, and we may not make it out of this ourselves ... but we won't crumble and fall apart due to being locked down for weeks or even months. Right now, it's a soft lock down that allows for one to go out for necessary errands, though that may need to change.

The young generation needs a wake-up call, for the most part. They need to realize that the world doesn't revolve around them, and that all the tech or social-media wealth in the world doesn't make them invincible. For those who survive, if there is a society to inhabit afterward, it will make them/us stronger. Stay strong, neighbors... it's going to be a bumpy ride! Glad to have you to ride it out with, though!
