I'm wondering what's going on with that.

IMO it's due to expected mass looting after stocks run out, as well as enforcement of further quarantine measures that are going to be implemented. Local law enforcement won't be able to contain the violence and house mass arrests, that's why they already backed off, tis part of the plan.
