All of you "alleged" farmers that say there is nothing to worry about are clearly trolls or lack common sense. Our agriculture planning and production was determined based on one set of expectations. Those expectations have changed in a huge way. Unless we previously grew and raised enough food for our own nation, we will likely be short. On top of the expected supply chain impact, we will have a resource problem.

No one fills up their gas tank and then fills up a 50 gallon drum to hall around just in case they need it. Are you telling me that the farmers and everyone else involved downstream have already planned on producing enough to feed an entire nation with no extra imports...is that really what you are saying? Do you know what all fellow farmers are doing acrosss the nation?

I just finished reading again the book "Grow or Die".

Root veggies is the way to get max calories per acre.

I am planting potatoes right now. I also have some high yielding types of squash going into the ground.

In the fall I will plant beets, turnips, potatoes, rutabagas, parsnips, and jerusalem artichokes.

Should get about 3 crops per year here in sunny Brazoria County, TX.

BTW, I am planting sunflowers and grains to feed my chickens through next winter. My grandma never bought feed. She fed her chickens root veggies and sunflowers.

Hell, she never owned a car! She could not have lugged bags of feed anyway, but what an incredibly industrious woman she was.

A farm is holistic, not specialized. Our livestock improve the quality of the soil, the soil produces abundance, the abundance is shared with the livestock, the seasons keep it all functioning in perfect order.

The age of the specialists is coming to an end in a big way.

Ok, as for potatoes, yes, they are great to have but how in the heck do you store them. Mine sprout within a week's time!

How are you storing your food?

Get a big box and put a bunch of sand in it. Bury the potatoes in the sand. Keep the box of sand and potatoes in a cool, dark , dry place. Can keep them for months that way. YOu can also keep any root vegetable this way. Don't be a momo who keeps them in that big plastic sack, store your shit right!

Good post, sensible info. I do not know a great deal about chickens, I grow veggies. But I'm looking into chickens and I love sunflowers! I am going to ask my neighbor if I can plant them on their enormous property so we can share.

I think farmers need to be respected and valued as they have not been for DECADES.

The other day I went online and ordered frozen meat directly from a family farm I found that takes online orders. It probably cost $20-30 more than if I had purchased it at a grocery store but it felt GOOD to be valuing them and obtaining quality meat.

Commoners have no frame of reference outside their own needs. They try to "order" because they lack any real awareness besides their wants....not like when we grew up and 'knew stuff".
Stuff like 50% of drugs or more still come from organic source....and so does a lot of domestic and industrial.

There will be people good at herding ignorant and helpless into useful, so they feel connected and playing a vital part too - once they get some direction they will settle down and become familiar with how we really are and it will be good to em. They all say that stuff out of neglect and will thrive for a change of that.
