I can relate to the use of dark humor at work. This guy says that after working with these patients on ventilators, all the humor went away. That to me is the the scariest part of the article. BTW, source of the article is ProPublica, known for left leaning but generally factual reporting. |

You know they keep saying some people have mild symptoms, I wonder why it's not the same for everyone. I hope we can contain this shit quick. To me they're not doing it fast enough. He says the virus is a lot worse than you think. | Coronavirus | nola.com Quoting: Southern Soldier [link to www.nola.com (secure)] Might be the scariest article I've read with inside hospital info! This article paints a very frightening picture from someone within the hospital and respiratory therapist perspective. One thing to note, is that they reported over 40% mortality from people with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The latest guidance has shown that a RDS can be more effectively treated by using lower pressures and respiratory rate. In addition keeping patients on their stomach instead of their back has shown a substantial increase in successful resolution. When using lower pressures and respiratory rate CO2 buildup in patients may feel like they are drowning or suffocating even if they're oxygenation is adequate. The settings allow treatment to go on longer before without damaging the lung itself. They often need to perform full sedation nearing the intubation. This is shown to reduce mortality rate from 40% to more like 15% or less. How do we get this information to this hospital and respiratory staff? I can go look and dig up the original link for this. |
