When it was discovered on Dec. 28, 2019, it was quite faint, but since then, it has been brightening so rapidly that astronomers have high hopes for the spectacle it could put on. But given the tricky nature of comets, skywatchers are also being cautious not to get their hopes up, knowing that the comet may fizzle out. [link to www.livescience.com (secure)] The bug one on the chart that comes the closest was discovered Feb. 20+ days ago. So i am going back to compare condition levels. It is listed as a 7. |

And I have never noticed it in that part of the sky before. Venus is normally bright and dominates the sky according to the astronomy course I took when I was young. Venus yes. Holy shit, yes. Brighter that I have ever seen it, big as a street light. |

I don't speak french, but I filmed the comet, that is not what I filmed. That looks like a shaky video of Venus, judging by the lack of other stars in the view despite the bright nature of the object. |

It's just a bright spot against the black background, there's no way to tell that it's moving or not. Just because it is shaky does not necessarily mean it is actually moving. that only indicates the footage is not stable, not that the target is moving. |

(+Enhanced VIDEO +) and this a little comment from there : unfortunatly my phone didnt show all the clouds in the night sky, but what seemd to happen, was, one cloud intensifield its brightness, while all other surrounding clouds did not. just after that, this cloud dissolved into darkness, just to materialize this blue glowing growing radiation cloud for a small moment, before being swallowed from the atmosphere. Also strange, that happening twice in the video exactly at the same spot in the sky. Maybe the oxygene and H2O reacting with some incoming space radiation residing in that atmospheric location ? |

(OP) Senior Forum Moderator 03/25/2020 12:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Astro, how does this object produce light in it is presumably in a vacuum? Genuinely curious. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77492653 It's mostly reflected sunlight, the white part is dust reflecting light from the sun. The fainter green glow of the extended coma is from ionization of the gas emitted by the comet, usually cyanogen, carbon monoxide, molecular carbon and other volatiles. Depending on the chemical composition you'll get different colors in comets usually ranging from green to blue. Last Edited by Astromut on 03/25/2020 12:09 AM |

What the phone did not show, also I filmed in HD, according to my internal eyecam sensoric data, received by my brain, was rather some electric/chemical reaction in the cloud |

That would explain the disappearance. |

My take: Blue light source on the ground reflected on a cloud - especially as it reappears in the some spot with the next cloud. . Ah, I didn't catch that the cloud cover wasn't constant. That would explain the disappearance. Yes, the evening sky was filled with little single clouds. And at the beginning of recording one cloud was in the spot, where the transformation into this blue glow happened. the cloud disappeard and the glow appeared. This happened again after one minute. And when I stopped filming, I looked up a little more and I swear, I saw red/violette sparks coming from the same spot, quickly spreading in all directions and disappearing after a second. |
