funny how pandemics make people eat so much more food.
 Quoting: nimmerfall

I actually lost weight.....being home makes me figgetty so I'm on the treadmill, free weights, or doing chores....eating less cuz its a subconscious rationing of supplies.....
 Quoting: peterpeccary

yeah, i think the subconscious (or somewhat conscious) decision to ration is what is causing me to lose weight.
i could stand to lose a few more pounds, still

Planted so far:
Tomatoes
Kale
Lots of lettuce
Cumbers
Squash, beans, corn
Melons
Bell peppers
Basil
Mint
I have a ton of Australian pepper trees growing and lots of free range peafowl around...the raised plante4s are like fortresses with chicken wire to keep the rabbits and peafowl out.

i keep reading a lot of threads and posts about some saying the foods running out in warehouses, and others saying that's bullshit, and there's plenty.

however, with recent limits on how many items you can buy of certain things, in some places, starts to make me wonder. the stores and media blame it on hoarders, and being courteous to others. that ay be true, or it may be a cover story.

like it or not, we've become a global society. regardless of what the actually case is right now, today, if the progression of spread and lockdowns continue, and borders continue to shut down, and more people get sick and can't produce, it would be very plausable that the raw materials, produce, and food from other countries, as well as food made in our own countries, might get cut off or severely limited.

this idea isn't all that far fetched, especially for us GLP regulars.

so, what do you all think?
i have relatives in the states and canada, as well as here in switzerland, that i've been warning, telling them to prepare and stock up on storeable food.

i'd like to hear from you all, with some good old glp uncle intel, sourced info, or your own personal opinions on this. and, this info. might help all of us...

yes, i'm prepared, but convincing family and loved ones is sometimes difficult. i'm sure many here may also be cut off from traveling to their own families and relatives if the live in another state or country. so, warning is the only help we might be able to give.

thanks. stay safe. hf

I agree you might not always get the preferred product you want, but, you will usually always find another alternative. Also this is America. WE are the largest exporters of food in the world.

Not only can we grow more of whatever, when SHTF like this, a good portion of Americans have yards that they will most likely start a garden this spring in as well. Some will even purchase rabbits and hens/ chicks for future chaos, that may or may not happen. Americans are just going to be a bit more prepared after this, that is all.

I talked to my dad who works at a grocery distribution center in Nashville, TN. They distribute mainly to IGA's and other regional stores. He told me the record in sales for his warehouse in a single week was $18 million. He told me this past week they have sold and distributed $26 million in goods. He said they are shipping out faster than they can get inventory in.

You people are fucking stupid. There is not going to be a food supply issue. All necessary workers will not be interrupted. And if some get sick others will pick up the slack. The economy on the other hand will suffer.

The USA produces so much food and can actually produce a lot more than it does. Imported stuff will be the concern and of course hoarding will lead to some shortages in the stores. The processors are already wrestling with how much to ramp up- they are more afraid of boom/bust once everyone has so much they won't spend as much and demand falls off a cliff.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75615507

Man you are way off. Whit the crops lost last year due to flooding we dont have any reserves of grain. There will be a huge problem if this happens again. Its been raining a ton here ground has been completely saturated here. Not only that we are entering a grand solar minimum and yields will be big time. Gas will be a quarter a gallon but a loaf of bread going to be 50 bucks.

This has been big baby steps from just a couple weeks ago and each day it gets worse, the predictions.

Draw a graph of "severity" since two weeks ago and you can see it go exponential. So any analysis for today needs to consider that "you are probably way underestimating how bad this will get...."

I am not talking about CV severity - I'm talking about the severity of WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO US.

My farmer friend says delivery of diesel for his farm equipment (10000 litres) has gone from 1-2 days to 10-12 days already.

He wasn’t spooked before. Now he is.

Thanks for sharing this. I think the best evidence and reports we can get right now are from our local farmers. Just like this report. If farmers are having issues with diesel, livestock feed or other essentials this is a good indication of where we may be headed.

Don't know about food but obviously the tp supply didn't last. Hasn't been any for sale here for over a week. No tp for sale at any store anywhere within 130 miles.

Never thought I'd see the day in the US when something as basic as tp would be unavailable but here we are. Bread shelves totally bare as well. And a basic item like hand soap is limited to 1 per customer.

First world problems? This shit is real.

I'm lucky where I am at there are lots of farms. Worst case I do some work for the farm and get some veggies for the table. I think everyone should start a small garden in their space. It can sustain you as well as be good for you.
