Gov Edwards increased our lockdown to April 30th. Why do I feel it's about to get much stricter? It needs to be, but dang- it should not be, why can't people follow the rules and act right??

Well it looks like other states are closing us off. My Mom just said TX is closing off to us. I’m going to look for links when I get home

Quite the opposite. During their Spring Break - Mid March, nearly every car getting gas at Costco was from Texas. I am from there so I know the car dealerships, at least 2 near me were from that area. It's highly probable that they got it during their visit.

Update on Covid testing - quarantine in my family-

Mom ( went to Lake) - seems as if she dodged a bullet. April 9th will be 14 days, so fingers crossed.

Sister's Mother in law - negative.

Sister in law- still in quarantine, working it for all it's worth, I am thinking this was just a ruse to get off of work.

Sister- ( who was not a concern)- just tested, has been complaining about feeling poorly after colonoscopy on the 16th in New Iberia, La. -- yes, I know it should have not been done!!! She began to feel icky on the 19th of March.

Her symptoms were-- ( just in case anyone wants to know)
horrible headache, and sinus pressure-- with an earache. This came and went. On a few days, she just said: "it's really bad allergies, and was chipper and upbeat". She always had a little nagging cough, and called on Monday ( 30th) seeming concerned. I told her to get tested. She called yesterday, and it was apparent she is very sick. She could barely speak without coughing. She was incredibly hoarse. She described it as a very bad asthma attack. I told her to go to the ER if it continued. She thought she should stay home b/c she has no fever.

She's a voluptuous lady and has some underlying health conditions, so I am stressed. I tried to call her today, and no answer. I am very concerned.

If everyone could please send her good vibes and prayers, I would appreciate it. She's my rock, and my only good sis, the other one is not right in the head. LOL.

Glad to hear that some in your family have tested negative. I will say a prayer for your sister and hope that she feels better soon!

I was scheduled to do a colonoscopy last month as well, but I cancelled it. Too bad her doctor went forward with hers. Seems like he/she would have known better.

Why is no one here on this thread talking about the two dead bodies that are still located at the Hard Rock Cafe building on Canal Street?

Does anyone realize that diseases from those two dead bodies in that destroyed building is being spread throughout the city?

Those two dead bodies have been there since before Mardi Gras!!

Not even the Mayor says ANYTHING about it.

People of New Orleans needs to wake up!!

A longtime New Orleans-area grocery store is closing down for deep cleaning after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus.

Dorignac's Food Center, located at 710 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, will close at 8 p.m. on Friday and will not re-open until April 13. The announcement of the nine-day closure was made after a worker contracted COVID-19, according to WWL-TV.

No one is talking about that in this thread because this thread is about the virus.

People in New Orleans are indeed talking about the Hard Rock Fiasco. Every time I walk downtown I can see that poor man still hanging there. They put up a new tarp, but was no help.

Uhh...what does this mean, I wonder?

The PHU is for people awaiting the results of their COVID-19 test and can't go home beforehand.

[link to www.nola.com (secure)]

That little statement right there needs some explanation. Is it for people who voluntarily choose to stay there to await their results? Is it because they have to quarantine if they have traveled somewhere and are now returning home? Or is it something more nefarious?

Thanks for sharing Gemini Rising. hf

Okay here's some additional explanation about the personal housing units (PHU). Still not clear whether this is a voluntary isolation or what.

The Personal Housing Units are for symptomatic individuals coming from hospital emergency departments with COVID-19 tests pending and require isolation until test results are reported.

<snip>

“It’s also not a shelter. Think of this as another wing of a hospital. Patients are going to go in through the ER just like they normally would, and on the back-end, if the hospital feels they are appropriate for this setting, they’ll be transferred here.”

Louisiana awaits ventilators, new facility as cases rise

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Louisiana rose sharply Saturday as officials awaited the arrival of hundreds of ventilators and prepared to convert a New Orleans convention center into a facility that could hold thousands of patients so that hospitals in the hard-hit region are not soon overrun.

The state Department of Health on Saturday said more than 12,400 have tested positive for the virus, an increase of roughly 2,200 cases from the day before. The death toll in the state from COVID-19 stood at 409 people.

Coronavirus death rate for New Orleans is double that of New York City

New Orleans has emerged as one of the country’s coronavirus hotspots, with a death rate per-capita double that of New York City, according to a troubling new report.

Gary Wagner, an economics professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said the parish of Orleans, which encompasses the Big Easy, saw a coronavirus death rate of 37.93 per 100,000 people as of Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Meanwhile, the death rate for the Big Apple was 18.86 per 100,000 people, the outlet reported.

Louisiana has reported more than 12,400 cases as of Sunday with the death toll climbing over 400, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Heads up on grocery situations. I implore you to get what you can now. Some of us on a prepper thread have been talking about the coming food shortages for over a year. Due to floods , droughts , fires, etc. The current situation inflames it. A lot of the meat we’ve been getting in is being diverted from warehouses that supply restaurants. 2-3 times more people are shopping to buy food. All those people that were accustomed to eating out
