I think they need to re-evaluate what is essential and really get strict. We are all going to have to get uncomfortable and inconvenienced to get through this. It really sucks too bc my husband isn’t working now....he’s in oilfield....I’m essential so I will be employed but I can’t support us. So I get the financial concern but I don’t want to bury him or one of my children either.

I think you are right... I work security in a refinery and still have to work but Im 50 and have health problems myself due to a previous battle with an unknown virus back in my 30s... We are in a major turnaround right now with hundreds of extra contractors coming in every day.. Members of one contractor crew were confirmed to have the virus and all they did was ban that crew and set up some temperature check tents... To top it off, my daughter lives with me and works at Lowes, no staying at home for her either.

New Orleans ER Workers Say Hospitals Are Verging on 'Systemic Collapse'

COVID-19 is spreading faster in Louisiana than anywhere else in the world. The Pelican State trails New York and Washington for the highest number of confirmed cases per capita. On March 22, Edwards issued a statewide “stay at home” order, citing fears that the Louisiana health care system could run out of capacity in as short a time as a week.

In New Orleans, where most Louisiana cases are concentrated, doctors and nurses think a breakdown might come sooner than that. “Systemic collapse is a true concern,” said Kenneth, a New Orleans emergency physician. “It's not Lord of the Flies today, but our supplies—face masks, personal protective equipment [PPE], gowns, beds and ventilators—are dwindling, and everyone’s getting nervous.”

Kenneth and other emergency department nurses and doctors said their hospitals are at or close to capacity. Because health care infrastructure is sized to meet the population—393,000 people live in Orleans Parish—New Orleans’ soaring caseload could easily overwhelm an already strained system. Right now, doctors are sending home patients who should be in the hospital.

I work for a garbage company so we have to keep the trucks rolling but it seems that we could do more and cut back on who is essential. I mean why the big stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot? Sure there’s a logical reason and if there is why not limit to ONE and set a limited time frame each day or every other day. Same with groceries and limit how many go in and only open a certain amt of stores? OR why not do the SIP and enforce it? If it’s a case of becoming an Italy repeat...I would think they’d pull out all stops.

“I would say that Louisiana was not on and still is not on a very good trajectory compared to other countries in the world who have been exposed to the virus longer than we have,” Wagner said. “What a lot of people are worried about — and you can see this happening in Italy — you have this huge growth in cases and you have a huge percentage of people diagnosed that require hospitalization. You can quickly overwhelm the ability to provide health care services.”

In two weeks, Louisiana has gone from zero to 837 confirmed cases and 20 deaths in 36 of its 64 parishes. While most of the cases were reported in the New Orleans area, more parishes are starting to report their first cases as testing is become more widespread.

BATON ROUGE – Due to the public health emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic, the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is extending the deadline for state income taxes to July 15, 2020.

The extension applies to Louisiana individual, corporation, fiduciary and partnership income tax returns and payments.

“We recognize that the coronavirus pandemic has caused significant disruptions in the lives of Louisiana citizens,” Secretary of Revenue Kimberly Lewis Robinson said. “We believe providing more time to file and pay their taxes can help to ease the stress they might be feeling during this public health emergency.”

The state filing extension follows the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to move the federal income tax deadline from April 15 to July 15.

Well I have been reading the bill and it looks good for the people whom have lost work over this bullshit. Rents and mortgages will be protected meaning You can't get evicted or foreclosed due to losing work over this quarantine. You will be allowed a 120 days grace period after the quarantine has been lifted to start paying back the missed notes and rent. Also utility companies can not shut off Your service for non payment and they will have to wait in line like the rest of the bill collectors. So don't freak out because once that bill is passed You will get some funny money and Your bills will be paid.

Yeah but the asshats are determined to go against anything he does and to hell with us. Pisses me off. With my husband not working I don’t know what we’ll do and I’m trying not to worry. I make decent money but not enough to support us. He keeps waiting to get called out but I worry about how safe it would be on a rig.

I'm in Baton Rouge, still working as an essential employee. I'm hearing that they are only testing the worst cases. Even known exposure to a positive case and running fever does not get you tested. This is crazy to me.

Thanks for this thread. I've been hoping someone would start one. Hope everyone stays well and has what they need. hf

Posting from north Louisiana, I run a sales route for a beer distributor. From my perspective it looks like business as usual out here. Pawn shops open, laundromats, oil change places, liquor stores. It’s fucking insane.

The governor admitted Sunday there will be no checkpoints or real enforcement for SIP, so what was the point?

I just talked to a Walmart employee from a store in Shreveport. At her store they have had 3 employees test positive, but store is open, Management has warned to keep quiet about it, crew is freaking out.
