is that all you have to add?

we're talking millions of dead in the next couple of months, and you post a thread.

i personally know of 6 people here in switzerland and one person in the states that currently has corona. nobody i know died, luckily.

doesn't change the numbers

usa death rate is quite low (comparatively) and going lower.

it's around 1.2% and when trump inspired chloroquine is given to the serious cases these numbers will quickly decelerate even more.

i don't know why i even bother to reply to this. you haven't even seen the beginning in the states yet. wait a week and then check back again, ok?

have a look at the mortality chart for the USA on this link, and tell me it's low and going lower...

and sure, i am also hopeful for the new cure, but, there is still a lot that must be done before that will start helping.

So... this is a true story. I was laid off last week. They laid off 90% of the roughly 400 people at my small business, in Arkansas. I've never missed a day in five years there...gone. Done. It's over, they let us take home all the food that is going to spoil yesterday. That was my golden watch.

Meanwhile, most stores in my city are closed. Nobody is going to work. Everybody is at home. The internet is super super slow. Water, at certain times of the day, is slow enough to walk to the mailbox and when you come back your glass is still not full. And it tastes like chlorine really strongly.

Anyway.

My mother, and two brothers in Florida? yeah, they think I'm crazy, actually think I'm way over exaggerating the 'societal level changes' taking place in the USA and around the world. They say, 'Wharf, bro-- chillax. I just went to the beach. I literally just hung out in the bars with the spring break college kids. You are making us concerned about your mental health.'

And I read these emails locked in my apartment, with no job, no money coming in, running out of food, and running out of options.

That's my reality, from the USA. March 23, 2020
