I know you are having trouble adjusting but the data shows the following are all true for this virus:

the infected double every 5 to 7 days if there are no controls inplace to limit contact in society.

The incubation period is around 14 days: that means ANY controls you put in place today, the rate of spread won't appear to go down until 14 days later

15% of those sick, need hospitalization. Hospitalized cases can take 2 to 3 weeks to resolve (recover or die)

the death rate is weird, in Italy it's a 10%, Spain 7.5% and in the US it's about 1.3%, diamond princes is 1.4% but there is still over 115 active cases from the diamond princes so that will only go up. the case fatality rate may be about 3% over all which is twice that of the Spanish flu epidemic. It's safe to say it's significantly higher then the flu at .1%

In simple terms this is a highly infectious bug with a case fatality rate twice that of the Spanish Flu pandemic with no known vaccine or treatment other than supportive care. the primary risk if it burns thru a population all at once, the hospitals will be overrun creating poor care resulting in higher mortality rates. We saw this happen in real time in multiple locations in China, now in Italy, New York City and Spain.

this is no joke and is our new normal because if you send everyone back to work, school and to partying, this thing will spread like wild fire. China may be at the start of a second wave as they release people to go back to work right now.
