Question about the closing of liquor stores.
I am not getting what good it does to close liquor stores during lockdowns.
Alcohol abuse aside, alcohol when moderately consumed is often a calming or rewarding enjoyment. I can see some people being distraught or scared, and having a drink to chill out some would possibly be helpful for them.
Or enjoying a bottle of wine with a meal, kinda brings comfort or normalness to the lockdown.

My take is this:

Since the states are advocating for distancing and closing of non-essential retail, they are leading by example.

At least here in Pa. where the state runs the liquor stores...

Liquor is NOT non-essential.

It better remain available in grocery stores, or else...

Re: Question about the closing of liquor stores.
the claim is it takes pressure off supply chains as a whole allowing focus elsewhere ~

reduces medical/hospital visits that are deemed unnecessary taking load off the medical system (i realize severe withdrawals are another thing and wondering how that is going for some people)

removes a layer of people acting outside their typical behaviors, possibly making bad decisions

state run stores like in PA they are shifting budgetary needs so operating those stores costs money they need to spend elsewhere.

all the being said im building a still. so far no go

Today at local liquor store they had a guard at the in door that was only letting 50 people in at a time, and people were linining up outside ( line of 5 or 7 people, pretty steady amount) and many were self distancing, some had masks on. Inside the store, they had black tape on the floor at 5 ft intervals at the 3 cash register lineups, and had a sign asking you to preferably plait by debit or credit, and to bag your own booze.

If they close the liquor stores here in Florida, it's on like Donkey Kong.

Fortunately the grocery stores here are also liquor stores.

But getting people to self distance is a problem. So many just don't get it. They creep up closer and closer to you in line until I felt like a jerk saying, I'm sorry but could you please step back a bit?
