Rural America - how are things in your area? | |

Quoting: Deplorable NO MORE Michele B Only diff I see is most biz owners are letting employees off. No hard feelings. Except most are already either shut down or doing their own brand of quarantining....like only a few customers in at a time, etc. Most grocery stores nearby (NOT WalMart)’are allowing “seniors” to come in before regular hours so they can get what they need, no hassles from other customers. Oh,’forgot to add,’our pastor has “worked around” the no groups larger than 10 by having outdoor services. We have a big pavilion area, outr under a roofed area, and we met there for prayer service Wednesday. Then he had a big tent (about 40x40) erected on a parking area and we had an outdoor service out there Sunday, and will do so until the ban is lifted (o rthey forbid us from going out at all). |

Bread line in the am until runs out. No flour, canned chili, aloe TP and baby wipes in the am. Alcohol and weed stores still in business. I am a required worker on vacation but all plans shot. My wife is still holding Hawaii tickets in 2 weeks. She has hope.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25765381 United States 03/24/2020 11:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm curious how others in rural America feel about the virus. Do people act concerned? Any social distancing, etc.? Quoting: Lilaq I'm in NW North Carolina and most people here couldn't care less. Nobody really talks about it other than it being an inconvenience to getting toilet paper and can't go to church, and as of tomorrow, nobody can get their hair cut, "nails did", or go to those weirdo "internet sweepstakes" places. Otherwise, business as usual. It honestly really pisses me off. We have ONE hospital here and we have a big highway that runs through here where anybody from anywhere comes through. Everyone here seems to think there's a protective dome over our county--since most people are related or know so-and-so who is related to somebody they're related to. Therefore, it just "can't happen here." "God will protect us." Well, yes, but God also gave us free will to MAKE SMART DECISIONS. When it finally hits here, it will be bad. I'm hoping our Gov will stop wimping out and drop the "shelter in place" hammer. Yes, my place of employment is still working and my boss actually has gotten mad at me a couple times for asking what our company's "plan" is (there is no plan--keep working and shut up). It sucks, in KS. My county is a stones throw away from shutting down all businesses that are “non-essential.” I can’t wait until someone needs a plumber. They are fucking up big time. All diners/restaurants ordered to close. Most of us have already been sick for 2 weeks+ before the pandemic was declared. We survived. |

Went Friday to top off and couldn't find any all purpose flour, no TP, cleaning supplies and canned goods wrecked. Only 2 other people wearing masks. Most seemed unconcerned, and a couple asked if we were sick because we were wearing masks. But we've been taking this seriously since early on. Generally I would say most are not concerned. Things are bad enough, there is no need to make anything up. ~Fluffy "Never interrupt an enemy in the process of destroying himself." Quercitin and zinc...Get it. Take it. Anonymous Coward User ID: 46596664 United States 03/24/2020 11:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Rural SW Michigan here. Had two beggars at the store yesterday. Both were very practiced at their approach. Probably arrivals from South Bend or Chicago. Saw a new gang tag too. Rural America is being flooded with "urban youths" and it's not going to be pretty until they learn to respect rednecks. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78675895 United States 03/24/2020 11:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think most people who work for a living understand that they need to carry on with their lives and get back to work. They also understand our nation's safety and stability depend on that happening sooner rather than later. Quoting: Lumberghini People can easily work solo and not be in contact with elderly or sick. |
