Re: Will you take the $1200 check?
Still trying to figure this one out, appreciate any input you guys can give me --

I'm a digital nomad from Detroit currently living in Colombia (stuck here actually because of this, but s'cool) but file my taxes every year. Last time I had a refund was 2016, direct deposit to my still current bank account, but 2017 and 2018 I owed and paid through TurboTax using my credit card.

Will they go back to my last refund in 2016 and use that bank account information to send the refund direct deposit? Or will they refund it to the credit card I've paid with the last 2 years? For obvious reasons I'm not able to receive and cash a paper check... lol.

Thank you all for your input!

I meant "to send the stimulus direct deposit" not refund... lol oops.

Well, due to fraud if u go on the irs site it says it wont direct deposit more tgen 3 times to the same account. Doesnt that make a lot of sense? That a new unverified rando account is way safer then an established checking account you have used for years. The reason i found out is i was actually one of the people who used the same account for years. So while waiting on direct deposit that never came i received a check. So i still think it will come in check. They will not wamt to get into a system of flagging 4th direct deposits.

Thanks for your input but that doesn't make any sense because until I became a digital nomad and self-employed, I got a refund every year for like 20 years, same account, direct deposit. ???

The $1200 will probably need to be declared on your 2020 tax return. If you don't take the check, ie. send it back, their accts will get screwed up and they'll still be looking for that $1200 on your tax return. Trust me on this! If you don't need the money, donate it to a charity and take the deduction. Save the headaches!

Ohhhh I see what's going on! I did some digging and it's 3 refunds PER YEAR. To limit fraud. So people who have a family bank account with multiple family members' refunds going in will have potential issues.

It's not 3 refunds total across multiple years. From the search "In an effort to combat fraud and identity theft, the IRS limits the number of direct deposits into a single financial account or prepaid debit card to three refunds per year.Feb 6, 2020

It will go toward a greenhouse and solar water pump in case our primary solar array is low or slow.

The other half's check will go toward a wood-fired cook stove or a wind turbine. Any leftovers: wood for the chicken coop.

Yeah really. Good luck to you, Vodka4two. Too bad you did not have this option for your Poll, OP: "Only if I have to such as direct deposit". Since you did not have that option I chose "Yes, It will really help out.". If it is cash I think I will go ahead and try to get a riding lawnmower if I can not hire a local lawn care business to do it for parents' lawn around the house.

If not, I think I will just bite the bullet and go to a nearby gun shop that a family friend of mine and I used to somewhat frequent when he was looking to buy a few hundred dollar police style combat shotgun. At the time I just plain did not have the money for guns. I do now technically, but at the same time I am not wanting to spend too much of my money on guns and ammo when I have long term plans for my set-aside money.

Yeah really. It does not matter if you take your share of our tax payer fleeced monies. Our nation's fiat currency will inevitably go into uncontrolled hyperinflation soon enough.

Not sure if I’ll get a check or not. My husband makes over $100,000 and I’m a stay at home mom (we have 3 young children), so I have no income. We don’t really need it, but it would be nice to have if this lockdown situation continues to drag on. If I get something, I’ll put it in savings just in case we need it.

I already filed our taxes in February.
Had the IRS send it by paper check.

Guess, I'm good to go, just wait for the mailman now.

Going to save it up for our year end due home property taxes that destroy our fall holidays for the last 9 years, no Halloween, No Thanksgiving, no Christmas, no Christmas tree or dinner, No New years and my last 9 birthdays in the first week of January haven't been celebrated.

Property tax in Texas is way over inflated.

Oh, never mind... I totally forgot the house needs a new roof with 3 leaks. bummer.

Maybe we can have a normal fall season in 2021.

Anyone know when they start sending the checks so I can watch for mailbox thieves?

Thanks.
