Re: Food production shortages coming to a store near you.
During WWII and the German U-boat attacks, Britain held out with millions of small gardens.

A small garden can produce a LOT of food and calories.

I just finished reading again, Grow or Die, by David the Good.

He says concentrate on root veggies for calories.

Another great book is Gardening When It Counts by Soloman. For example, if you face drought or have poor soil, simply plant your veggies farther apart so they all get enough water and nutrients.

I began preparing barrels for planting potatoes today.

The barrels held muriatic acid (hydrochloric) that my company uses regularly. BTW, if you have ever been in a swimming pool, muriatic is what they use to control acidity/alkalinity. It is NOT toxic, simply dangerous when concentrated.

I rinse them out 3 times, drill drain holes in the bottoms, and then a series of 1" holes in the sides so that I can put the vines on the outside.

You can do the same with a 5 gallon bucket, a clean trash can, a wooden box, etc.

Look up how to plant and care for these on utube.

Do you have any potatoes at home? Let a few sprout and start your barrels. A good barrel will yield about 40 lbs. of spuds.

I am in Brazoria County, TX. We have a long growing season. Veggies such as beets, turnips, kale, etc. will grow right through the winter regardless of freezes.

So, get some seeds and get started!

Almost forgot, save your urine. A family produces enough nutrients in their urine to grow (almost) enough calories to keep them alive.

In a pinch, you can plant bird seed. Sorghum and millet can produce a lot of calories. Grind into flour for flat breads.

Oh yeah, check the seed companies. Park, Terroir, Westwind and others still have stock, but they are running out fast.

Rest assured food companies are working 24/7 at full capacity

I know because I was just hired by one

They expect 10-13hrs of work a day 7 days a week during this crisis

It is very exciting to take part in this crisis working for a company that is part of the critical infrastructure keeping Americans fed hf

The Trucking industry is very hot right now

What most do not realize is if your willing to get off your butt and switch jobs to one of these critical infrastructure industries you will cash in

If not enjoy your welfare checks while they last only to be left wondering what to do next when the welfare runs out5a

Designed for readers with no experience and applicable to most areas in the English-speaking world except the tropics and hot deserts, this book shows that any family with access to 3-5,000 sq. ft. of garden land can halve their food costs using a growing system requiring just the odd bucketful of household waste water, perhaps two hundred dollars worth of hand tools, and about the same amount spent on supplies-working an average of two hours a day during the growing season.

Re: Food production shortages coming to a store near you.
Last month I bought several hundred pounds of grains and beans in bulk at the local Mennonite store. Went back a week later and they only had a few bags left, so I bought some more. Went back a week later and they were wiped out, so I went to the regular grocery store which has about 15 feet of bulk products. They had two bags of barley (yuck) and two bags of green split peas, the rest of the shelves were bare. I took the green splits and felt like the cat that just ate the canary.

Last week the Mennonite store got their Azure Standard bulk order delivery but, surprise, all the grains and beans were back ordered. On Tuesday they were supposed to get a large order of bulk grain and beans, but NOTHING was delivered. They were even out of yeast for bread. The Mennonites. No food. They had other smaller bags of oatmeal and rice but at full retail.

Next crop -- September.

well could be that the pet food company is overrun with orders I work for a pet food company and we are getting like 50 orders per day running 7 days a week, and we only ship out full trucks each trailer is worth about 75 thousand dollars, it's gotten so crazy we have literally had to limit certain products for each company we ship to amazon and chewy PetSmart Petco all across the USA, Canada, and Mexico

Yeah, Soloman contradicts a lot of others, but he has the credentials.
