Universal Basic Income still can happen. Maybe not with Andrew Yang, but D. Trump has been toying with the idea himself. A recession heading into November would not favor the incumbent.

Think about this: we almost had a Universal Basic Income back in the 1970's supported by Richard Nixon. It had passed the House and got shot down in the Senate by... get this... The fucking Democrats.

A Universal Basic Income would make situations like our current situation seem like only a speed bump to the economy instead of crashing into a brick wall. Call your local congress creatures and tell them to get busy with a Universal Basic Income bill like Andrew Yang's Freedom Dividend. Democrat or not, his policy really is good in that it doesn't stack on welfare and it is paid for without printing money to do it.

Everyone in this thread is being kind and not judging ... so here is my question. Just divorced and am/ was working as a substitute teacher... my son also lost his income do to the shut downs. That said, the Ex claimed us all in 2018. Neither of us have filed yet. Is there a way to stop the help from going to my ex? He sure as hell doesn’t need it.

NP. Nixon trying to pass it came as a surprise to me when I learned of it too. A Universal Basic Income is a good idea and a sound conservative/libertarian idea if it is done correctly. Thomas Paine was for it at the foundation of our country, it almost passed when pushed by Nixon and the Republicans, and Milton Friedman and a list of 1,000 other economists signed a letter endorsing a form of Universal Basic Income.

Some wealthy greedy fuckers on the Right hate it because Corporations could largely be made to fund it. And, some big government control freak fuckers on the Left hate it because it would replace much of that draconian big governmental and bureaucratic control they love so much by just putting the same amount of money into everyone's hands. So, they don't get to decide who gets it and who doesn't.

If everyone's welfare is provided for with enough money each month for food and shelter, then there is no need for all the rest of that "welfare" and all the bureaucracy that goes with it then, is there? But, noooo, Democrats can't let people have that much autonomous control of their own lives, now can they? That is why I think Democrats largely shot down Yang, he wanted to give citizens waaay too much freedom to run their own lives. But, many on the right are just as fucking bad.

But, Universal Basic Income done properly would solve a lot of societies problems. Including the hit this economy is going to take due to COVID-19 and similar situations in the future.

Yesterday at work I had 2 people call me and want a copy of their 2018 tax papers so they could sign up for the "corona virus check"

Both said someone called them offering to help sign them up to be on the 1st list to get the checks. They needed their information from their 1040 to give the person. I wonder how many people are going to fall for it and give all their info and get their ID stolen.

I doubt it, from what I have read it is requiring that you have filed tax yourself or been reported on someone else's tax return.

But feel good knowing that lots of illegal non citizens will get one if they filed a return and had anchor babies.

You are missing out on all that free earned income money. People are scamming the system for over $6000 each by having kids and claiming self employment.

File taxes now, but I would not hold much hope of calling the IRS and getting any help. I tried almost all day to get through and waited on hold for hours at a time only to get disconnected and have to call back. I never got to speak to a live agent.

In reading the bill, I learned that those who are unable to use apostrophes properly won't be getting a check.

Thank you for the advise... I got mine done today. Ex is holding the kid’s w2’s hostage as they were mailed to the house... that’s why he is an ex.
