To save society and civilization would we just let the elderly die?

To be sure, elders in any society hold the knowledge and wisdom.
Case in point: Boeing axed older engineers via forced early retirements to save $.
Afterward, they designed and manufactured the 737 MAX.
If the elderly are culled, the next generation and all to come after will be a lesser people.

I saw multiple aerospace projects fail when I was an engineer. In every case, the old guys had retired or been laid off to cut labor rates. I was the Project Engineer on the Space Launch System for my aerospace company in 1988. We were behind schedule. We brought in a few retired veterans of Apollo and they got us back on schedule in two weeks. I remember one meeting where young engineers were presenting trade studies on the engines for the second stage. Young guys did not know which engine to use. Said they needed more trade studies and simulations. Apollo vet said, "Use the J2S. Trade studies, hell, we already built birds with it". They KNEW.
