Anyone with the slightest bit of brain power could have seen this coming. How could they have been so stupid and short-sided that they put this country's drug manufacturing in the hands of China? Or food destined for this country?
Or parts that supply our military?

Production better get cranking in this country, and never give an enemy that kind of power over us again.

Yes, they threatened to withhold the drugs, and the attitude was of humor about it. How many of the drugs the US was receiving were less than purported to be, or tainted in some way to start with?

Our military has been dealing with defective parts for a long time. Why should we believe that the pharmaceuticals are any better?

The irony is that the costs don't go down when they manufacturer this stuff in China. Quality control demands have sky rocketed that has forced Chinese manufacturers to buy expensive equipment from places like Germany or the US to meet quality demands. Even printing stupid labels has moved to the US because of hygienic reasons that China was unable to meet.

When they moved to China back in the day, it was possible to do because of crap quality of medication. But that has all changed with the massive lawsuits over the decades.

Moving it back to the US would pretty much keep costs the same as in China, minus the logistical costs of transporting it. And it's already happening, it just happened to late.

Are the hospital staff hoarding drugs for themselves?

A coworker told me her friend who had an organ transplant was informed by her doctor’s office her immunosuppressive drugs are out with an indefinite date for new stock, all she has is a 3-weeks supply left and that was with her stocking up a bit in advance of all this....

This wasn’t just due to incredible stupidity, but also severe greed. Because of the offshoring of production to China, drug company profits have become massive and have never been higher than at any other time in history.

The US government needs to build, or finance the construction of drug manufacturing plants, promptamundo. And if the pharmaceutical industry won’t play ball, then nationalise the industry using the authority under the Defense Production Act.

America needs to find a way to put the manufacturing sector on what effectively would be a war footing to prevent or minimize shortages in a wide range of critical goods.

It could be months before we see drug production levels normalizing, months we don’t have.

I live in Canada and there are about 21 drug manufacturing plants here. They make mostly generic drugs. I have no idea how much supply for the Canadian market China provides, or whether the domestic plants can supply all of Canada’s needs.

Have an “Uncle” who works with pharmaceuticals. “Uncle” says hospital around here does NOT have ANYTHING it needs as far as medications.

So, I am a pharmacist and years ago, I thought to myself..."If there is a massive disaster or epidemic that causes a shortage if drugs, my skills as a pharmacist will not be of any use to anyome."

That is one of the reasons I learned medical hypnosis and homeopathy.

In the 1918-20 flu epidemic, homeopathuc physicians who used homeopathic remedies saved most of their patients. Non homeopathic doctors, on the other hand, lost most of theor patients.
