Like a scene from a Dystopian, Sci-fi: today at the post office
i needed to mail something at the post office here in switzerland today. i would have rather avoided it altogether, but there wasn't much choice if i wanted to get paid...

so, as i approached, i notice a giant line formed. single file, with quite a bit of space between everyone. as i started walking to the back of the line, i notice the tape marking out 2 meters distance between each spot, where we were expected to stand.

about 20-30% had masks on. most were the surgical masks. i wondered to myself if they were sick or protecting themselves.
one guy with a mask pulled out a tissue and wiped his forehead, then dabbed around his neck. it's cold out today, so i immediately thought, oh shit, this guy is sick, and here in line. i wanted to call him out, but withheld.

i waited about 20 minutes before i finally arrived at the entrance. every once in a while, the smell of sick drifted through the air. not vomit sick, but the smell you smell when you go near someone that is sick. hard to explain, but you maybe know what i mean.

i kept my distance and thought to myself that i had maybe made a mistake by coming, but didn't have much choice. when i was at the door, i was given a sign to enter by an employee, and told which window to go to.

the post here always had glass enclosures with a speaker/mic system to communicate and a small slot to pass things back and forth. there is a section that opens like a window, upwards, so that larger packages can be dropped off or picked up. when i approached, and said what i wanted, the woman told me to leave the small package on the counter and step back two steps. i did, and she collected it. i paid and got out of there a quickly as possible.

i might not have been able to portray the eery feeling at all well, but it was really crazy. like a film.

anyone else have any strange experiences? i know you're a bit behind us here in the states, but i can imagine some crazy measures will soon be starting there soon too.

damned

stay well and safe. cheers

edit: haha. the cheers emoji cheers is definitely not the same as cheer cheer 1rof1

i think it was coming from the woman in front of me. she was asian damned and also wearing a mask. i thought to myself that at least the mask would help others like me...
i quickly held back two positions--4 meters, instead of the single 2 meters

yeah, and i guess you can imagine, it's not the smell you want to encounter while out among strangers in the current environment.

i haven't been out much at all lately, so the scene and the masks was a bit shocking. things changed so much in just the past week.

but its like, nobody notices? wtf as if they are somewhat programmed to fear and follow, dont question anything

good thing is, even if our goverment gave no masks to us,
we ordinary people are making them and giving to others..
so everyone has its own now

I went to the store yesterday in NJ.

I wore an NBC full face mask and was shocked at what I saw.

Large group of people working and huddling outside on the grass. (15-20) No one was wearing a mask or gloves and the were virtually all immigrants.

Inside only one was wearing a mask and there was no social distancing. Even the staff wore nothing.

I was nauseated by the thought that I was standing in an American store wearing a protective mask in 2020!

The bakery was open much to my amazement and no one was wearing a mask or gloves.

Traffic was light but not totally devoid and convenience stores looked early Sunday morning busy.

It has come to this!

Yeah, I saw a video from Peak Prosperity that praised Czechoslovakia and said if we did what you guys were doing, we would be in MUCH better shape. Kudos to you and your countrymen.

As you can tell by many of the posts here on GLP, we are still battling the "nothingburger" contingent, including our wonderful president, who think this is all blown out of proportion and we should just get back to work. Hard to engage in any real sustained effort to combat it when there are so many with that attitude - hence, we now have more cases than any other country in the world.

well here it is even better made, we go to work only in small 2-3 persons, make half work, then comes second half and so on, we dont meet at all...

Theese measures are good, but go to work is a priority here, nobody gives you anything..

60% from poor money when you stay at home
.. so you work, kids at home, home shooling..

if it is possible work from home, or make smaller units..

hope it helps, take care

Neighbourhood grocery store had a pane of plexi,
a spit-shield if you will, at the counter today.

chuckle

Otherwise not much different from any other day
in Smalltown life, except you can sense the tension
and growing anxiety of people out and about.

Store shelves normal, no shortages of any kind,
as far as I could see.

the one i saw today was a joke. everyone was rather uneasy. and there was messages being played in the background, about keeping distance and recommending that you pay with contact-less cards. all... there was even someone checking that there weren't too many in the store at once, and he wiped down the basket for you with sanitizer.

well, i had cash and paid, and placed in on the spot next to the little hole in the partition. the cashier reached around and handed my my change. the partition is useless, even for them.

While I was out and about today (in mid-Missouri, USA) I stopped at a couple of stores. One store put a line on the floor for waiting customers to stand behind. That was a first. And one of the customers at that store was wearing latex or vinyl gloves.

At the other store there were no markings on the floor to stand behind, but customers were spacing themselves out anyway while waiting in line to check out. A couple, man and wife, were wearing surgical masks. Customers were also being careful not to get too close to each other while in the aisles, shopping.
