In addition to the protective equipment shortages at hospitals, generic drugmakers are bracing for potential shortages next summer and FDA is tracking 20 specific drugs that could be affected. Once again the government and the healthcare executives have failed to do their job. No surprise there... Personal Protective Equipment Supply Chain: Lessons Learned from Recent Public Health Emergency Responses Personal protective equipment (PPE) that protects healthcare workers from infection is a critical component of infection control strategies in healthcare settings. <snip> The US PPE supply chain has minimal ability to rapidly surge production, resulting in challenges to meeting large unexpected increases in demand that might occur during a public health emergency. Additionally, a significant proportion of the supply chain is produced off-shore and might not be available to the US market during an emergency because of export restrictions or nationalization of manufacturing facilities. <snip> During the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic and the 2014 Ebola virus epidemic, the commercial supply chain of pharmaceutical and healthcare products quickly became critical response components. This article reviews lessons learned from these responses from a PPE supply chain and systems perspective and examines ways to improve PPE readiness for future responses. But in reality, if teams of doctors and nurses are quarantined or fall ill, the health care system capacity will be greatly diminished. If one nurse tests positive, for example, 20 other health care employees she's been in contact with may immediately be quarantined, too. [link to www.foxnews.com (secure)] So we are shutting down the entire economy in order to flatten the curve while medical personnel don't have the PPE they need to contain/treat the virus. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? |

It makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? We will supposedly face a shortage of medical personnel to deal with this pandemic, yet they fire one (and threaten to fire others I've heard) because he dared speak out about the lack of PPE. This is happening in other industries as well but right now healthcare professionals are on the frontlines. |

They take in mostly illegals with state healthcare and do the bare minimum for everyone else. I have a real dislike for their hospital because of the way they treat actual citizens. NYC hospital responds to photos of nurses wearing trash bags as gowns Lucia Lee, the senior director of media for the Mount Sinai Health System, provided a statement to TODAY stating the "safety and protection" of Mount Sinai staff and patients "is always and will always be our absolute top priority," especially during the coronavirus pandemic. "When it comes to staff wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), the facts are very clear: We always provide all our staff with the critically important PPE they need to safely do their job," Lee wrote. "If an individual does not have their proper PPE, they do not go on the floor, period. Any suggestion otherwise is simply not accurate." [link to www.today.com (secure)] |

According to these leaders, hospitals across this country are expecting to run out of PPE in anywhere from two weeks to just under three days. If this does happen, personnel including doctors and nurses will no longer be able to report for work as they will have no means to protect themselves against this pandemic. Why doesn't he just jump in his porta-john and go back to June 2018, grab all the PPE he can load up? Problem solved. I'm sure he's a good doctor but crap at utilizing options at hand. They should all be kicked out of the hospital during this epidemic....and NEVER let back in. Hospital administrators (beaurocrats) are the most cold-hearted people I've ever met in my life. |
