If it comes to it, do you want to be placed on a ventilator? | |

I don't think I would want to be placed on a ventilator but I wonder if that is fair to my family. I'm not sure. Quoting: Daniel Higdon I did see it save my mom's life in 2014. She had said she never wanted to be on a vent (she was a nurse). It became a different situation though when she was struck with lung cancer in her late 50s, and the surgery to save her life required her to be put on a vent. She ended up agreeing to it, and the surgery successfully save her life. She is on oxygen now though and was not able to return to work. The 45 year old man with COVID-19 in Louisiana is supposedly doing better and off the vent now: Important milestone: Kenner man, 45 and critically ill with coronavirus, taken off ventilator [link to www.nola.com (secure)] Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m sorry about your Mom’s cancer and health situation. What a brave woman she is. You’re all in my prayers today. Thank you for the thread and the kind words. |

When that nurse shared blood, I think it everything to do with how she put the machine on the patient. I think the ventilators are killing a percentage of people. Would never even go to hospital. Meds at home, thanks. The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. The state tries to convince everyone they cannot resist. Do not go quietly into the good night. Quoting: Daniel Higdon I think most people once they can’t breathe will do just about anything to be able to breathe. It was terrible watching my mom trying to breathe. The tumor on her lung was huge, and she was definitely struggling for every breath. However, I don't think she would have agreed to the vent without the potential of the surgery to save her. In other words, it wasn't the potential to help her breathe, but the potential of the surgery that convinced her. Of course, a different situation in that she had cancer that was growing at an alarming rate, and she knew it would kill her without treatment. With the virus, treatment might help and it might not. Your body might be able to fight it off and it might not. As a nurse, my mom had seen too many people who were not able to come off the vent. She didn't want that for herself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77846190 United States 03/29/2020 12:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Years ago I was intubated for pneumonia. However, I didn't remember why I was in the hospital or what the heck was sticking down my throat when the woke me. It was a thirty day induced coma. As soon as they woke me, I fought hard and pulled it out, causing me further misery by getting a blood clot in my chest. They should have removed it before waking me. The nurses had the gall to excoriate me for pulling it out. I'd do it again with clear instructions in order to live though. |

A few studies claim that hearing is one of the last things to stop & you can hear for up to 7 minutes after you pass. Quoting: 2Trish This is very sad to me. I hate to think of my loved ones or anyone dying alone in such a way. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78027790 Well you have a slim chance of recovering. At this point you have a very high chance of kicking in the bucket. Your lungs are filled so much with fluid. Then if you do recover how is your quality of life gonna be? |
