So if I drive north from Louisiana into Arkansas or Oklahoma and then cross into Texas from there then no checkpoint?!?!?! Utterly pointless unless all state borders are locked down. On the freeway it's usually the "Parent Drivers" who cause it. Those a-holes will cut you off and brake check you causing a major pile-up. These people are so bad they have a special chapter about them in the TX Drivers Ed course and Texas has declared them the most dangerous drivers on the road...

I'm thinking that you'd still be able to travel straight through, but might have to have a hotel reservation up front if you'd be staying for a night or two.

A bigger question is if you have cross-border business dealings from an adjacent state, can you cross into Texas, do business, and return the same day? It gets messy fast.

I'd heard second hand that driving from Colorado near the four corners through Utah to Aridzona, the Utah cops have a checkpoint and will question you in depth. If they're satisfied, they'll let you continue to your destination but warned you not to come back or stay in Utah.
