Re: Rent Strike Movement Gaining Steam
hi

It's true, how can you 'waive' 3 months and then expect it from people who couldn't pay then? Some are waiving fees and such, but there's no free ride. They will get their money, all of it. This is ugly shit.
 Quoting: Elihua

Well, they won't get their money from me.

Because I don't have any more. I lost my job. No savings.

So, they won't get it from me, because I will become homeless soon.

And that's the straight truth
 Quoting: Wharf Rat

Well that's silly. You can draw unemployment and get your full pay plus 600 extra a week! You will be making more than you were working! For at least the next four months!

Don't see how that would make anyone homeless.

Unless you quit. Did you quit your job? That wasn't smart. If that was the case then yes, you probably will be homeless.

Somehow, everybody's fine with Mortgages payments being suspended

But not being easy on renters

And I'm saying, They SHOULD take it easy on renters.

but I'm not a freeloader, I'm definitely looking forward to living in the woods.

Where are mortgage payments being suspended? I have multiple properties and not one bank has said, hey,we are going to give you a pass on what you owe us for the next couple months.

Nope, nada zip.

My issue as a landlord is the BANKS get bailouts and zero interest money, tenants get to live for free but I'm expected to hold it all together without any sort of help.

BULL SHIT

IF anyone gives me a break, I'll pass it on to the tenants. I'm still waiting...

HOLY SHIT!!

New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis are among many cities that have temporarily banned evictions, but advocates for the strike are demanding that rent payments be waived, not delayed, for those in need during the crisis. The rent strike idea has taken root in parts of North America and as far away as London.

White sheets are being hung in apartment windows to show solidarity with the movement that is gaining steam on Twitter, Instagram and other social media sites

 Quoting: Wharf Rat

Is that because you are a freeloading pos?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76549089

Rent has been too high for too long. Renting should not be more expensive then a mortgage. They should change the laws, to prohibit the renting of property that has a mortgage/loan on it, and seize rental properties after rent collected exceeds two to three times the worth of the property.

Landlords that bought a house, and carved it into several micro apartments, should be required to restore the property to what zoning and the original blue prints say it should be, or the rental should be condemned, torn down, and a proper multi-story unit built.

The cost of living, housing, needs to be brought down anyway possible. It is deliberately over inflated to the point of absurdity.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58117000

Rent should absolutely be more than mortgage, it’s called maintenance & the myriad of govt regulations required to provide govt deemed “appropriate” housing. Ownership requires risk & demonstrates commitment.

You’re not going to bring housing costs down by forcing reno’d multi-family units to revert back to single family. If one rental brings in 1k & they have four there- a single family would be paying the 4K four families were before. Housing prices are completely localized & market dependent.

It might already be in the stimulus bill that passed into law

And if they don’t? What if they’re disabled and their spouse makes just over the amount that qualifies them for these payments?

Libtard millenials wrongfully think owning a house incurs no expense to the owner so they feel justified and have no shame in opportunistically squatting.

But landlords have a key to your rental and if you have a job you'll find your shit on the sidewalk and the locks changed by the time you get home. They'll have no choice but to deal with the consequences after they get a responsible tenant in there.

as an onsite manager I know what owners of properties go through. The owner has multiple complexes and HE still will owe on the mortgages even if tenants don't pay. One of his buildings mortage alone for one month is $18k!!!

And these are not high status complexes, just average every day apartments and condos in Alaska

It's a catch 22
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78530699

I fall into a catigory where the government shut down all the companies I worked for.

The government forced all jobs to be canceled. Most of us are finding zero help from UI.
We have been put on hold, a forced hold by the government. Now that same government is not helping any of us. Highly trained in my field I was booked solid through September and now I have zero jobs.

We are contract workers for the live entertainment industry. I am trying to come up with something web-based. It is possible I may not even get the 1,200.

Most will fall off health insurance around May now....even the Unions are finding this too.

If the government puts our lives on hold...they need to do the same for the Banksters.
 Quoting: psyoptics

Same here. I lost well over $10k this month alone from canceled gigs.

Since "they took our jobs", pun intended... we can't just go out and find more work.

If government won't help, then we will pull the landlords down to our level and that will force the banks to pause mortgages if they haven't already.

My car loan I was able to defer the month and they just extended the term of the loan.

Same should be done for Mortgages.

I feel your pain landlords for working so hard to buy your place, but you have to look at it from our perspective as well because alot of us want to work.

Grocery chains and retail is nice but not enough to support a family and keep a roof over our head.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21105526

You lost over 10k this month alone but apparently have no savings. Instead you want to bring more responsible folks down to your level. Your words.

How many folks are already looking forward to their stimulus check, planning to make a purchase with it?

Re: Rent Strike Movement Gaining Steam
Better be careful you Bernie loving free-for-all grab what you can get for nuthin junkies. I can guarantee you that most of these so-called no-eviction policies -- and they are just policies -- will not stand the test of the courts and emergency injunctions to stop extra judicial non-enforcement by law enforcement to execute writs off possession after a an eviction judgment is obtained. And politicians should get solid direction from their general counsels before blabbing such things in front of the media to score points with the voters for their future campaigns.

Trial courts have no authority to ignore or change the law. Only state legislatures could do that. And even they will have a hard time throwing out contract and common law in one area as it applies to residential leases without upsetting the whole body of contract law and jurisprudence.

Furthermore, a local sheriff or police agency tasked with executing writs of possession cannot just refuse to carry out their sworn constitutional duties without repercussions. And, I guarantee you it will get challenged immediately by very active landlords in the various state appellate and supreme courts as emergency actions demanding immediate hearing and rulings.

Keep in mind that many of these head law enforcement officers are de-facto politicians making big statements without the legal standing to make them. Just because they say it doesn't mean it's so. Unfortunately, the sheeple will cherry pick the information that best suits them and I fear that many will stop paying legally obligated rent because they heard someone on the news say that they can just top paying rent. If that happens there will be hell to pay in unintended consequences.

The Rent is still TOO DAMN HIGH!

They have been putting up new modern looking apartments in my town but it's in the older poorer part of town. I guess they are buying up property of old people who died and their old '30's/40s style older small homes are torn up and modern apartments going up.

The problem is these things rent for over 1400 a month! Who the frick in this part of town has that kind of money? No one. That's half the monthly income for majority of people around here. It's baffling. Idk, maybe they are housing 4 college students in them or something. No one but doctors/lawyers/professors or business owners make that kind of money around here.

So, still no affordable rental apartments since the new ones are through the roof!

All u banker defenders who are talking about enforcement and laws and insulting people calling them freeloaders wanting handouts especially dude from Poland. We are in a national crisis pandemic if the government didn't shut shit down and people out of work be my guest if people aren't paying rent in fact they deserve to be put out. But we have a national emergency, the government need to make banks waive mortgages and in turn rent. Talking alot shit like you will evict people and have a list of people wanting to rent good luck with that with the backlog of evictions and court not in session plus try calling back those people wanting to rent lucky if you find one in a national crisis.you guys will learn the hard way.there are honest hardworking people who want to do the right thing and now are screwed cuz loss of work they and everyone deserves mortgage and rent waivers right now cuz there is a crisis causing loss of income. Americans deserve a break anyway the amount of Bill's and taxes we pay is unbelievable, we are slaves to the bankers and so are you.dont you see the bankers want us to fight each other instead of going after them the ones who have all the wealth while we fight for crumbs

Not in the US. It is 80%. +$600 weekly is more than most people's regular pay. Add to that money saved because there is no commuting expense and no child care expense. That's a tidy sum right there. Eating at home instead of eating out adds up too.

The rent is still due unless in a location where evictions have been temporarily banned - which they have in Houston for example. But those back rents will still be due when things go back to normal.

PAY YOUR RENT BUMS

Not one court can prostitute a landlord evicting a tenant,

NOT ONE! Its not illegal to evict a tenant in a residential property, its not a commercial property with different laws.

PAY YOUR RENT OR YOU"RE OUT ON THE STREET. Lazy bums want a free handout and holiday at the expense of others.

Trying to save their free money to buy another TV and plan a holiday, IS NOT WHAT ITS FOR! THAT MONEY IS FOR YOUR RENT AND BILLS, Pay them or join the BUMS on the street

Evict the tenants. The court cant uphold the process. If the government wishes to take over your property, then they need to take liability and compensate you.
