Introducing the Green New Deal Agenda

You will be stacked and packed wherever they put you. Ever see Hong Kong? Yeah, just like that. And they will give you your measly UBI check every month.

Yay fucking yay! Glad I'm old. So sad for everyone.

Maybe that is where the bank will put people when landlords default on their mortgages because tenants stopped paying.

Wonder how the bank will react if the property owner, who's not being paid rent but still has to pay them, suddenly decides to go on a "loan strike"...

goaway
 Quoting: ScrumpTheTexan

People are SO STUPID.
They just see their little piece of the puzzle.
Renters all stiff the landlords.
The landlords all stiff the banks.
The banks start closing their doors.

IT WON'T BE LIKE "It's a Wonderful Life",
you can count on THAT.

The government can create a a few zillion more
hyper-inflation bucks out of thin air,
and shower them down from a helicopter,
but as we spiral downward,
and the dollar collapses,

there will be no more food, because the
farmers aren't going to work their asses off
from dawn to dusk out of the kindness of
their hearts (which is legendary in America)

No roof over your head.
No food in your kid's bellies.
No hope...

recipe for CHAOS and ANARCHY.

then...MARTIAL LAW.

GOODBYE America.

Great, now the landlords will lose their buildings to the banks and the governments for not paying their mortgages and taxes.

It will be a great time for picking up properties really cheap.

New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis are among many cities that have temporarily banned evictions, but advocates for the strike are demanding that rent payments be waived, not delayed, for those in need during the crisis. The rent strike idea has taken root in parts of North America and as far away as London.

Nice except us small landlords still have to write very large checks for property taxes, insurance, water bills, fuel, landscaping, appliance repair, pest control, painting, tree work, garbage pickup, snow removal, septic tank servicing, required state water tests and all other repairs.. Landlords will go broke within a few months if no rent is paid.

Then your water and heat will be cut off, and the towns will foreclose on the properties-- for lack of tax payment, and kick you out. Everything will go downhill-- so good luck with your freebie.

I am a retiree landlord and I depend on my rental property for a small amount of monthly income even though it is a pain to manage. I worked hard for it, and I was also a renter for much of my life.

Maybe because they are paying full pay unemployment bennies?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76549089

Actually way more than full benefits.

People affected by this get their regular full unemployment benefits + an additional $600 per week for up to 4 months.

Let's say their unemployment is normally $300 per week.

Now they'll get $300 per week plus $600 per week because of the shutdown.

 Quoting: Callin

Additional 600 per week???? HOLY COW ! Imagine being a barista, getting unemployment AND additional 600, probaly more than they make working

Screw the rent strikers. Additional 600 dollars a week is way generous and many will be better off than when they were working

All that and MOAR, but I ain't signing no freakin' government checks

Um, hello poor intelligence people of planet earth.

What happens when you don't pay rent?

Yeah for a short time you won't get evicted, however when the crisis is over you will have to pay back all the due rent - unless the Government decides to pay your rent.

Why? The landlords most likely have a mortgage they have to pay. If you don't pay, they don't pay - foreclosure occurs and you're out on the street anyhow. This escalates and housing becomes tighter further driving up rent.

You're best off paying as much of the rent now as you can, so that you're not too far behind later.

as an onsite manager I know what owners of properties go through. The owner has multiple complexes and HE still will owe on the mortgages even if tenants don't pay. One of his buildings mortage alone for one month is $18k!!!

And these are not high status complexes, just average every day apartments and condos in Alaska

It's a catch 22

The government forced all jobs to be canceled. Most of us are finding zero help from UI.
We have been put on hold, a forced hold by the government. Now that same government is not helping any of us. Highly trained in my field I was booked solid through September and now I have zero jobs.

We are contract workers for the live entertainment industry. I am trying to come up with something web-based. It is possible I may not even get the 1,200.

Most will fall off health insurance around May now....even the Unions are finding this too.

If the government puts our lives on hold...they need to do the same for the Banksters.

It's true, how can you 'waive' 3 months and then expect it from people who couldn't pay then? Some are waiving fees and such, but there's no free ride. They will get their money, all of it. This us ugly shit.

If this spreads into retail, then expect brick and mortar shops to close costing millions of jobs forever and it all goes online. Then the mark of the beast system(Name(user)) and number of that name(password number via digital implant))to go online will occur, and so virus spreading cash will also go.

There is no way people will want to go online to log into their hundreds of accounts with hundreds of shops to remember all those separate user names and passwords*that could be later hacked and acquired), so a universal hackless user name and pass number system will need be created via a I.D chip implant so that people can access everything without having to remember so many login details (that could be hacked)and you will not be able to buy nor sell unless you have your universal user name and pass number I.D chip(that can't be hacked)....5aburnit

A lot of people are going to lose, including landlords. If I lost money on the stock market, I knew the risks getting in, same goes for investing in property. It sucks for both sides and I can see the logic for both sides of the argument. May be more productive to focus on who really is responsible for this and how to receive compensation from them.

Uh no, it's because the government has shut down the economy, so it's impossible to make money or find a new job if you were fired. Plus all of these landlords are going to be getting huge bailouts from the government, and they are STILL going to demand rent from their tenants.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77386563

I'm a landlord. I'm not aware of any huge bailouts coming my way.

I still have to pay the mortgage payment and utilities and the rent money I receive pays for that.

If the mortgage can't be paid then all tenants and myself will be out on the street.
