Personally I find the idea that someone could own a building and collect profit in the form rent from other people repulsive.

Landlords like everyone else is responsible for themselves and it is high time they understand the risk associated when profit is predicated on the tennant's ability to sell themselves in the marketplace to pay the rent.

Is there anyone more despicable than someone who pimps real estate?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78569585

Easy solution for you. Don't rent property. Do something else.

What, I don't know. Build yourself a hut. Live in a cave.
Get some money and buy a house. But your physical maintenance isn't someone else's responsibility.

DON'T VAX, PROPHYLAX!

New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis are among many cities that have temporarily banned evictions, but advocates for the strike are demanding that rent payments be waived, not delayed, for those in need during the crisis. The rent strike idea has taken root in parts of North America and as far away as London.

This!

Don’t pay rent, mortgages and insurance and property taxes don’t get paid, managers and maintenance people lose their jobs, property is foreclosed on and everyone is evicted.

And losers like OP thinks they’re winning.

FUCKING MORON!

Wasnt that stimulus package supposed to handle that. Get a no interest small business loan. Im sure a lot of Rat landlords are getting it anyway to invest and then pay back the loan and make a killing of the government.

hi

It's true, how can you 'waive' 3 months and then expect it from people who couldn't pay then? Some are waiving fees and such, but there's no free ride. They will get their money, all of it. This is ugly shit.
Quoting: Elihua

Well, they won't get their money from me.

Because I don't have any more. I lost my job. No savings.

So, they won't get it from me, because I will become homeless soon.

And that's the straight truth

as an onsite manager I know what owners of properties go through. The owner has multiple complexes and HE still will owe on the mortgages even if tenants don't pay. One of his buildings mortage alone for one month is $18k!!!

And these are not high status complexes, just average every day apartments and condos in Alaska

It's a catch 22
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78530699

In Minnesota, the Gov. instituted no evictions and 1 yr delay on mortgages after the COVID crisis. Everybody is sacrificing from bottom to top, nobody is escaping without a little pain. We will get through this disaster by cooperation and unity. Selfishness and greed will only cause more chaos.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78702909

All of these bummer age politicians need to get the fuck out of office. They are so out of touch it's unreal.

You can delay payments for 1 day or 10 years... as long as people are not working, they will not be able to pay that rent. They're not going to be able to make it up either due to the severely depressed payscale over the last 35 years.

If the government is going to order people not to work they're going to have to start coughing up mortgage and rent payments. It's really that simple.

There is no chance in hell Joe $15/hr is going to come up with an extra $1500 to meet expenses. The ability to stay housed fed and clothed is contingent on being able to work to pay bills.

Before COVID19

4764.67 Gross take home salary after taxes per month
-1634.87 Rent
- 89.21 Electricity
- 100.37 Phone
- 900.00 Truck Payment
- 168.76 Insurance Vehicle
- 67.86 Internet
- 60.65 Life insurance
--------------------------

1,742.95‬ left for food other bills travel, another 400 a month out of that for fuel etc.

So with financial assistance my job not being essential means in one month I cannot pay rent or end up homeless, the truck comes first that's my livelihood I am a carpenter so yeah I wont be paying rent tomorrow, fuck that noise. I am not allowed to work, they can go ask the government, my government cash will maintain my food and my truck that's all I need to get back on my feet after all this shit. No evictions for 3 months so 3 moths free rent, I aint starving to pay some fortune 500 rent....

I am in and will not be resuming rent until the feds let me earn a proper income anyone that tries to put me out will eat lead. FYI the assistance the feds offer her is going to be about 980 biweekly. and most 1 bedroom apt goes for 1400-1800 a month in Toronto.
