What about the bills? and taxes.

Water, Electricity, Gas, housing association admin charges, garbage collection, cleaners, environment charges, service charges, land tax, income tax and more.

If you dont have a job. WHO IS PAYING THESE.

Again, your Landlord is on the hook, RENT is about 50% to 25% of what you pay.

Its better to EVICT than deal with non payers. If change your tune to ask for the government to pay for these or leave.

Re: Rent Strike Movement Gaining Steam
Every month Landlords still have to pay taxes, bills, loans, mortgages, utilities and still fix stuff for tenants. Allot of landlords actually do this for a living.

No one, no one is bailing out the landlords. Landlords are not seen as commercial business, but are taxed the same with zero credits or benefits. There are some business what have properties, but the majority are mom and pop investors, people who moved in together and the other rented their property out.

When you dont pay. YOU FORCE THEM INTO A POSITION THAT THEY MUST PAY OUT OF THEIR POCKET FOR YOU. ALLOT OF THESE PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION AS YOU AND LOST THEIR JOBS.

They have no choice but to evict your ass and find someone who will pay.

If thats not a option, its cheaper to have the property sit empty to reduce the bills, or SELL!!!!

GET A TENT. THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN WITH OUT A LANDLORD PUTTING UP A FIGHT AND YOU WILL BE EVICTED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71365124

Except eviction is now illegal and my old ass landlord is too scared to show up in person because he might get infected and die. Hell, we were due for a city inspection last month and even they cancelled. Landlords are FUCKED. There is no coming back from this.

So many times the landlord is not collecting profit. They are covering their mortgage and repairs. This is like saying go live in a box unless you can afford a house.
 Quoting: Southern OR

EXCELLENT POINT

Laundry machine boxes are fantastic, but harder to find "just lying around"

Basically, any strong corrugated cardboard would work

Also, they are modular, and scalar. Want to make an entire "house" out of boxes? If you keep them protected from moisture, you've got a pretty decent live-place for a while

Not being sarcastic!

 Quoting: Wharf Rat

I truly am not being sarcastic. Seems people think all folks that own rentals are lords of the manor. Many are just the folks that kept their first house when they bought another one, or could no longer afford the one they live in. Not all landlords are rich.
 Quoting: Southern OR

You'd be amazed at how many people rent their homes because they bought a house in 2008 and are still upside down on their mortgage. Many rental owners rent their home out because they could not sell, had to move and could not pay two mortgages.

Water, electricity, gas, garbage collection can be reduced to a minimum, it only takes a small amount of money for these companies to provide these services the rest they profit from or the government can waive the payments bail out the people and even if that doesnt happen that can be passed to the renters at least they could pay that stuff the brunt of the bills is the rent or mortgage.

environment charges, service charges, housing authority charges.go screw themselves those are unnecessary charges people make up to profit for doing nothing not necessary for survival in a national crisis c'mon dude.

Land tax and income tax gets waived by government if they wanna shut down the economy they gotta eat that. All part of government doing there part.

Fucking idiots, the rents will rise when this pandemic ends.
 Quoting: Trumps Furry 2nd Term

there'll prob be some form of down-streaming legislation, that forces banks to give landlords leeway on their mortgages, to prevent them putting pressure on tenants in crisis.

only way really to avoid another disaster, once this disaster ends. it's not like people are refusing to work, and striking on their rents.

I paid rent in CA. for 48 years.
NONE of my Landlords were less than millionaires.
IDGAF.
Last place. 17 years, paid over 150K, he paid in maintenence about 1000.00.
And his wife is a lawyer, could have lived on her income alone.

Greedy to the point of not buying a new doorknob, just put new pins in it.
When the carpet tacks started piercing our feet, he hammered em down and put duct tape on em.
You non-renters have no idea.
He was a GOOD landlord.
Termites. roof leaks, water heater leaks, circuit breakers blowing out 1 or more light bulbs a month, septic not emptied and overflowed, it is
All About The Money.
I paid 75 to 90 percent of my income to this guy.
ANd I am grateful we had a roof.
But, no sympathy here.

Nice except us small landlords still have to write very large checks for property taxes, insurance, water bills, fuel, landscaping, appliance repair, pest control, painting, tree work, garbage pickup, snow removal, septic tank servicing, required state water tests and all other repairs.. Landlords will go broke within a few months if no rent is paid.

Then your water and heat will be cut off, and the towns will foreclose on the properties-- for lack of tax payment, and kick you out. Everything will go downhill-- so good luck with your freebie.

I am a retiree landlord and I depend on my rental property for a small amount of monthly income even though it is a pain to manage. I worked hard for it, and I was also a renter for much of my life.

Is that because you are a freeloading pos?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76549089

It is because italy issued a credit stay and full moratorium. In some places arrears arr divided up over 12 months.

America has dropped the ball. Literally. And honestly, seeing comments like yours that consider it freeloading? Well tons of people can break all this lockdown and shelter in and move. Yep. Contamimate up a bunch of lowes and home depot vans or uhauls. Move in with family or friends or buy a place or rent cheaper even. But what can't be done is to force people to be unable to do anything then owe 3 months worth of rent and late fees. My late fee is huge. Its 15%($240) plus a $25 dollar a day fee til paid. It is ok, i dont care who you are you know at least 1 person with a rent or mortgage. People are not reading these reliefs they "think" apply to them. Mortgage assistance is only on Federal loans so FHA. Thatvis only 60% of the mortgages in america. Those people still have HELOC usually at their bank that is not federal. Rentwise is the same if people get rent assistance like section 8. Even then it must be in writimg that you cant pay with a commitment of when you can pay prior to rent due and then a signed agreement between landlord and tenant. It doess not protect assisted living home rents either. If they dont issue a motatorium i will be sheltering out and renting a storage and a studio.

Re: Rent Strike Movement Gaining Steam
Rents will always have to be paid in the US, there’s just no way anyone in this country is going to allow free rent, especially in expensive cities like SF, LA, NYC. In fact my building which I rent in LA, high end rental of a well known company Onni, just sent out building wide email instructing people that they better pay their rental obligations and that the money being given to you from the government needs to be used wisely, and blah blah, basically saying don’t fuck with us.

With that said, I don’t know how it would actually be enforced right now. The courts would throw the case out most likely or it would get so back logged nothing would ever happen in the end. Maybe when everything is said and done in a few years they could come back to haunt you, but from my experiences, the only way that will happen is if you’re renting from a landlord type situation and not from a major company that runs complexes all over your city. You’ll end up forgotten about and passed over. Old rich guy that runs multiple little buildings all over the city though, you better bet one day you’re going to wake up to court documents from him.
