Israel uses phone tracking for people who test positive. On a small scale it could be useful to stop people from being idiots and traveling with the virus.

I was under the impression the US and UK governments have been saying no need to wear a mask?

Until just last couple of days, WHO offical recommendation was that masks where not needed unless you were actually sick.

Here, cashiers have been wearing no protective gloves or masks, with a big sign on the shopfront saying they are following the WHO guidelines and thus their staff are not wearing masks.

This is very important.

It means that YOUR SMARTPHONE WAS DESIGNED TO TRACK YOU WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION.

Here most of us probably guessed that, but I think the general population do not.

Either way, it was really just a conspiracy theory in the past, but, if governments are now saying they are tracking us with phones, and we have not installed an app or given permission, this is hard proof that no matter the settings on our phone, they already have this capability.

Personally I feel the only safe option is to turn it off, or for the super paranoid take the battery out. It is possible it could have a built in separate battery running a low power tracker, but this would have been found now by some hacker in the circuitry, and if it tracked you while off, your battery would drain, which doesn't happen.

Better still is what someone else recommended, use an old phone, but note you can still be triangulated.

But they screwed us (deliberately?) because the SIM has changed, and modern phones take a micro/mini sim of high capacity, which no longer works in older phones, so even if I wanted to I could not roll back.
