Wearing a bra does more harm than good – it does nothing to reduce back pain and weakens the muscles that hold up the breasts, resulting in greater breast sagging, Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports science expert from the University of Besançon, France, reported after a 15-year study. Rouillon says that the main conclusion from the preliminary results of his “marathon experiment” is that the bra is a false necessity. In an interview with France Info (radio), Professor Rouillon said: “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.” Prof. Rouillon used a slide rule and a caliper (a device used to measure the distance between two opposite sides of an object) to carefully measure changes in breast features of hundreds of women over a 15-year period at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Besançon... Being asthamatic my whole life made me uncomfortable to wear anything tight especially near my lungs & chest so the only time I wore a bra was when going out but in Winter I could skip that if I just layered my clothing. Just like wearing a broken limb cast or being confined to a wheelchair, you will loose muscle mass. I am also from the bra burning era and in my 60's. I have female friends that are over half my age that wore bras all the time plus suckled a few babies and what they have now shouldn't even qualify as breasts, looks like long flat tires they need to roll up from their waist just to mush into a small cup bra. I'm a bit gravity stricken but for 46d I'm still plump and full. People need their blood to circulate easily and bras don't let that happen at all, might be promoting cancer too as a side effect of restricted blood flow. No one needs a bra, you can layer a light shirt over a tank top.
