Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78014481 Most the the traffic is probably commuters caught in the muck I have no way of knowing but if this was caused by folks trying to get to the food bank that would indicate a lot of panicked and or hungry folks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77887527 Hopefully they will still be able to buy food for the recently jobless. Seems if the bulk packed restaurant food was repackaged - either by restaurants or food banks - the volume shift from ‘dine out’ to ‘dine in’ would be covered temporarily. The percentage of food eaten at restaurants still exists - just in bigger boxes. |

How is it even possible that we could have a food shortage I think Supply disruptions are short term, due to hoarding Now if we have a fucked up summer growing season we could be in serious trouble Last Edited by Slowly awakening on 03/31/2020 10:28 AM Evil controls the ignorant... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78691157 A lot of people are thinking along the same lines: An onslaught of orders engulfs seed companies amid coronavirus fears In sum, there is a rush on seed buying as overnight homesteaders are either seeing the value of growing their own food or feel they are in a dystopia where their very existence depends on getting some beans to germinate. Or both. [link to www.adn.com (secure)] |

Only 42 farms went out of business during the trade war. and most of them were due to flooding. Again keep in mind, the USA ships food all over the world as long as there is no summer devastation to crops there should be more than plenty of food. I'm not sure what to believe at this point about the potential for food shortages. I know I don't like it. My grandmother grew up during the depression She was always careful with not wasting anything. My mother internalized that and always stockpiled food. |

Yes, we can call it fear mongering BUT hasn't that been the rule of the day now for the last two months? It is the FEAR that has been embedded in all of us now that has caused the run on the grocery stores in the first place BUT it's also the REALITY that our supply chains for everything have been disrupted..you simply can't deny that fact. Truth is, none of knows where this is ultimately heading but it is worsening in magnitude every day. That is not fear mongering...just a fact. SEEDS may well be the next hoard..... User ID: 75990568 United States 03/31/2020 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Supplies Are Starting To Get Really Tight Nationwide As Food Distribution Systems Break Down Quoting: FeedYourHead [link to endoftheamericandream.com] All across America, store shelves are emptying and people are becoming increasingly frustrated because they can’t get their hands on needed supplies. Most Americans are blaming “hoarders” for the current mess, but it is actually much more complicated than that. Normally, Americans get a lot of their food from restaurants. In fact, during normal times 36 percent of all Americans eat at a fast food restaurant on any given day. But now that approximately 75 percent of the U.S. is under some sort of a “shelter-in-place” order and most of our restaurants have shut down, things have completely changed. Suddenly our grocery stores are being flooded with unexpected traffic, and many people are buying far more than usual in anticipation of a long pandemic. Unfortunately, our food distribution systems were not designed to handle this sort of a surge, and things are really starting to get crazy out there. Please go to link for additional details on what is happening. and a video showing HUNDREDS of cars lined up....their destination? A food bank! Having trouble keeping up with demand is not the same thing as "BREAKING DOWN!!!". Tyson foods for instance, since restaurants are toast have completely shifted/pivoted their restaurant sector procedures and efforts of supply to the grocery store sector. We are not going to run out of food despite how many times this website repeats this. Farmers aren't going to quit farming. And outside of concrete jungle and suburban world of the cities we have a lot of farming operations taking care of this country. |

They're buying from the supplier and passing it on to the public. 50lb bags of rice, flour, meats, eggs etc. We'll be through those supplies soon enough. We're going to see the effects of last years poor harvest sooner than we thought. My brother works for the grocery industry in Denver, CO and he's down to receiving ~40% of his ordered loads. Warehouses are running out. |
