Moskowitz said distributors have told him that Florida’s orders keep getting snapped up by cash-paying customers.

“They continue to get pushed down,” he said, “and when I ask why does that happen, they say because folks are coming in with cash. I say, ‘What do you mean folks are coming in with cash?’ They say, ‘A lot of these factories are in other countries and those other countries are not democracies.’ ”

Additionally, the president said he signed “an element of the [DPA] against 3M.” That order authorizes the head of FEMA to acquire however many N95 face masks from the company he deems necessary for the crisis. And the administration indicated Thursday that more DPA orders could come soon, possibly related to black market activities.

3M supplies distributors who mark them up a ton and then the distributors sell to foreigners.
3M knows about it though and obviously condones it which is just as fucked up.

After Trump's PUBLIC tirade against GM and now 3M why would any other American Company even try to assist the US government if they aren't ORDERED to?

Normally takes 6 months to engineer a product? Well the TRUMP ORDERED company can do it in 3 months, which sounds great except for example GM was able to compress that down to less than 2 weeks when they were NOT being ORDERED to do it.

Now I imagine in the future any other company would drag out on the timeline anything they were ORDERED to do ... and NEVER VOLUNTEER to do anything outside of their own product line EVER again because they would become the focal point for ANOTHER TRUMP TIRADE!

No. Shaming them publicly hurts them and they know it. It'll work.

I have no comment on GM other than to say the American taxpayer involuntarily bailed them out in the last crisis.

3M on the other hand apparently deserves much worse than they have gotten so far.

Their corporate headquarters are in the US, but their factories and/or warehouses must be in other countries. From what the gentleman from Florida said other countries are showing up with cash at the warehouses and buying the masks that have already been promised to the US.

CEO is Mike Roman. Corporate headquarters are in Minnesota. As to who owns them, I don't know. I'm sure they are a publicly traded company, right?

You have obviously NEVER worked in manufacturing, particularly a high technology automated manufacturing plant.

ONE machine repairman can easily idle 10% to 20% of a plant's output with a slow or incomplete repair, and those doing the ORDERING will be clueless about it. (those automated machines DO need repairs all the time ... which is why the machine repair guys are in the plant 24/7/365)

and btw ... you can NOT force a machine to make more product than it is capable of producing, I don't care how many guns you use or how often you threaten it with jail. (the 3M plant is running 24/7, except for repair downtime, I don't know how you make it run faster than that)

GOOD reason for NO other manufacturer to volunteer to produce a product that it has NEVER produced before and has no experience producing.

Trying to to that will just result in a Trump TIRADE against them and all the public hatred that goes along with it.

Better for any other company to just keep it's head down and avoid trying to help unless ORDERED to.
