Well I've been working from home for past 3 weeks and counting. I work in IT ops department for a large institution so I can do almost all of my work remotely.

Apply for unemployment. You'll receive your weekly base + $600 extra a week. After your 26 weeks runs out, you can get an additional 13 weeks of coverage through the Feds. Look up your state's Unemployment website.

$600 extra? Wow!

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
I was office based and we had to maintain social distancing.

Then working from home for a few weeks.

Currently furloughed from between Easter and the end of May. I think the government will extend this until the end of September.

I will be given one weeks notice if I have to start working from home again.

Luckily I'm full pay and benefits.

My employer does essential work, but my programming job isn't essential.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
I’m a RN who works in a private mental health hospital.

Almost all our patients come to us via the ER

People are now avoiding ERs. Our census dropped over 50%

Our hours were slashed by 24-40hrs/paycheck depending on hours signed on for and on top of that we are being forced to take furloughs at least 1-2 days per check. Those are unpaid.

We can file partial unemployment but that takes weeks and weeks to get. We still have to pay our benefits and bills.

Love the job but can not afford this.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
What job? I didn't have a decent job or career. Thanks to the CV, I now have my choice of hundreds of jobs. That's why I'm confused about this whole thing.

Yes jobs were lost. Mostly vanity jobs, the jobs in society that fulfill little to no purpose other than to SELL stuff nobody needs or serve 300 dollar steaks to business people with exspense accounts.

When I would lose or quit a job in my youth it never occurred to me to try to get "unemployment"; in fact I never heard of it. I just went out the next day and got another job. Who would have thought?

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
I have a residential cleaning service. Went from 10-15 jobs a week down to 5 and under a week. The ones who stayed on are mostly 60 and up. Some with health problems that prevent them from being able to do for themselves. I’ve had two customers who have had pneumonia but say it wasn’t corona.
What surprises me is the people that are looking for a house cleaner during this... I’m not taking any new customers right now. Who knows if the ones calling for house cleaning are sick and think they will get rid of the germs by having someone come and clean for them. Not going there. Lol
My customer on Wednesday this week said a lady in their neighborhood has it and had come back from New York and had a dinner party and went shopping all over their little town. This was in North Carolina.
I have one job this morning and should’ve had 3 today.

I just got furloughed, and I wasn't expecting it. I type medical reports, so I thought if anything, I'd have more work than I could handle. Turns out that's not the case. No end date was provided to me, so I have no clue how long this will last.

I'm freaking out. I have no clue what will happen to me long-term. I'll be okay for maybe a month, two at most, and that is just barely scraping with bare necessities.

I thought I'd poll you guys and see how you're all faring.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
Working for now but only because my company thinks ahead and had a rainy day fund. Whether I can keep working or not will depend on whether our clients can keep making money or not, and many have already asked us to cut costs + we lost a client directly due to all of this. My husband can’t go in to work anymore so we will need stimulus to cover that.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
It hasn't affected my job because I'm retired. But it is hampering my summer vacation plans. With everyone freaked out over this virus, everyone is bailing on their summer family vacation and activity plans. So, here I'm stuck at home having to replan my summer and trying to make it fit with whatever will be open this summer. I'll probably have to just go camping by myself somewhere this summer. But this shelter at home thing and shortages of supplies and limited open camping locations is making things challenging. But don't worry guys, I'll figure it out and be okay. I'll camp in my backyard if I have too. tounge

I am a supervisor with a major health insurance company. We are second to Blue Cross Blue Shield. I was working at home for a year now. I am the one who deals with angry patients and doctors. I try to de-escalate them and resolve complex issues with Prior Authorizations, appeals, claims, and finding medical equipment. I am usually SWAMPED with work and phone calls.

The last 2 weeks, I am lucky if I get one call every one to two hours.

There are no prior authorization problems because all elective surgeries are cancelled till further notice at most facilities across the country.

No claims problems bcuz no one is going to get their regular treatment and going for doctors visits due to the virus.

There is no business going on in health industry right now, except coronavirus and we have a special team set up right now just for coronavirus so I don’t get those calls either.

Business is extremely SLOW in the healthcare field for anything BUT coronavirus.

I am sorry you got temporarily laid off. There just isn’t much work for us right now. But it will pick up again.

Re: How has the coronavirus affected your job?
Linen and Laundry guy here, second shift, local hospital. Glad to have a job, but most of us here are pretty afraid of getting exposed to the CV. My approach is somewhat fatalistic: I'll probably get it at some point. Not too afraid or worried though. I've got 200 hours of PTO and nearly 100 of family and medical leave. If the damn virus doesn't kill me I'll be ok. Thank God for shitloads of Vitamin C and Zinc and all the other 12 or 15 supplement pills and vitamins I take everyday.
