I've been a professional baker back in the day, and I've never SEEN a 2-pound bag of yeast!!

The biggest I ever saw were these, mini-bags, maybe 8oz?

And that was, frankly, plenty!

Good for you!!

The Recession Bread Lines Are Forming in Mar-a-Lago’s Shadow

In Palm Beach a diner races to feed laid off workers. Food banks and pantries see surge in demand and long-term need.

Though it’s just a four-minute drive across the lagoon from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s private club, and ten minutes from the Palm Beach outposts of Chanel and Louis Vuitton, Howley’s diner has become an emblem of America’s stark new economic reality.

With more than 10 million people across the nation suddenly unemployed, bread lines are forming in the shadows of privileged enclaves like this one in Florida.

For the past two weeks, the kitchen staff at Howley’s has been cooking up free meals—the other day it was smoked barbecue chicken with rice and beans, and salad—for thousands of laid off workers from Palm Beach’s shuttered restaurants and resorts. The rows of brown-bag lunches and dinners are an early warning that the country’s income gap is about to be wrenched wider as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, and the deep recession it has brought with it.

Even as much of America is fretting about supermarket shelves depleted of their favorite cereal brands and toilet paper or the logistics of curbside pickup from favorite restaurants, a brutal new hunger crisis is emerging among laid-off workers that has begun to overwhelm the infrastructure that normally takes care of the needy.

Do you know who Bloomberg is? He's a Democrat who has vowed to do everything to discredit President Trump. Are you that clueless?

In my experience.... years.

Not joking... a really, really long time.

(Probably because most commercial yeast is actually a blend of several (hundreds, maybe?) different strains, each with certain temperature/moisture-related properties. For example, some can withstand much higher temps, or much lower temps...

My understanding is that these 'blends' in commercial yeast came about because of the difference in baking conditions in, say, Denver (mile high atmosphere), than in Florida. And the companies needed to sell yeast that would work uniformly well in very different conditions.)

Hope this helps!

Yes around here some of the grocery stores and schools are still feeding the school childrens breakfast and lunch. It's not bad enough we have to pay for their food stamps but they have to be fed breakfast and lunch because their mamas won't get off their lazy asses and cook for their childrens!!!

Apparently, a large percentage of kids depend on school lunches to eat. This seems like more of a loophole that has been exposed than a discontinuation of a public service. When citizens seek out assistance it should come from the government if possible, not the schools. Schools are not a soup kitchen

I have the Costco bag and it's at least 2 years old; been kept in the fridge. Just add 1 extra teaspoon (20% more) to the recipe and it works just fine.

My issue is pizza dough for 2 large pizzas to feed my family takes 5 1/2 cups of flour. I only had enough in storage for a month, and this situation isn't looking to be over by then :(

I'm already stretch-rationing sugar and salt.

This. Maybe he should have donated that money to the food banks instead of going it to rich MSM owners and political operatives. He could also donate more of his $50 BILLION that he made with his monopoly on government financial data.

I think it was the today show yesterday that showed a huge line of cars heading to the food bank. Mind you it was a aerial view so you couldn't see how nice and new those cars probably were. Provided it really was footage of people in line for the food bank, it was nbc news after all.
