so did you beg or hold everyone up without paying? You didn't have the money? cause why else would someone pay your grocery bill especially that much.

I had this happen to me three Christmas seasons ago...While I was fumbling for my card and the lady behind me stuck hers in the machine and bought the food and stuff for me....So glad you were remembered in this way..

No people do that and I have myself paid for some groceries of others... not that much at a time though..

I'm guessing the part they don't understand, is the fact that the OP obviously had the MONEY to pay, since she was in the checkout line with $157 worth of groceries.

I turned him down, told him someone else probably needed it more.

My husband said today he was in line at a drive thru and when he went to pay the guy at the window said the person in front of him paid $10 toward his lunch . He said he paid it “backward” and paid $10 toward the person behind him. He wondered how far that went down the line.

That's when you ask the cashier to wait a few moments as you head back to the meat counter and return with 20 tenderloins.
