Damnit...it's disintegrating? =( I really wanted to see a spectacular comet with naked eye.

I did warn you guys that this was why I was doing so many webcasts because I wasn't confident that it would survive. I specifically said I was trying to get as many pictures now while I still can because there's no guarantee it will still be around later.

Please point out exactly where Astro was advertising his software? He's giving it away for free. you troll's..

That's the problem with you lot, you ask Astro to share his opinion on this comet. and when you do you slate him.

Well sod all of you. Astro is amazing.

Thank for you for sharing your free software dude.
Even though I'm not using it. I'm sure a lot of other people will get some good use out of it.

You hypothesize that the tail might even reach mars at one point but in this freeze frame the tail is most likely to intersect with earth's orbit, what will be the result of that?

Nothing. Earth won't be there when that would happen. The tail moves with the comet. Meteor shower debris is deposited along the orbit of the comet.

So this comet will not create reoccurring meteor showers like the Orionids from Halley's Comet?

No. Halley's comet is another example of a comet that has a much smaller MOID than ATLAS. Its orbit gets within about 0.06 AU of earth's orbit. ATLAS has a MOID 10 times that large. It also helps that Halley's has a much shorter orbital period, allowing frequent "replenishing" of the meteor stream. The meteors trail along around the orbit of the comet, so a low MOID is mandatory for earth to have a meteor shower from it.
