The ROARING 20's

Oh man, those must have been fun times

I've been calling this decade the next roaring 20's for one or two years now, but
with a more doomy portent

Ww1 ended, prohibition brought loads of money to everyone from the top down

I wonder how someone from that era would feel if they woke up on our time ? It'd probably all seem like a bad dream and in a way that us exactly what this is

My WWII-Vet beloved Father was 9 when the 20's ended. He was ALREADY an avid photographer and had sold a photo to the local press @ 8 years old of a plane crash on a beach. He was healthy as a horse up until 2015, when Alzheimers "done him in." It got the best of him and seemingly destroyed his soul, here on earth. I took care of him. He loved science and nature and inventions. He was already thrilling to the interwebs and 3d printing when the disease of horrors hit him. He nearly made it to this decade and would be turning 100 this summer, had he lived. He was tough as nails and would have breezed through this latest horror of life, like a World War. Dad was a product of the 1920's and lived with his folks through the Great Depression. He always used to say, no matter what our society would be going through, through the decades, "Oh, THIS SH-T IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT WE HAD TO GO THROUGH IN THE 1930's!" (The huge oil embargo by the arabs in '73 - '76 comes to mind as one of those terrible times I had to live through with him in which he would have said something to that effect.)

As poor as these people were, were much happier than we are now.

He's right too, it might seem the end of the world and indeed it is for many, but life will go on. Mankind is not easily destroyed, life finds a way

The feeling when you don't have a qt flapper girlfriend.

That music is really different and interesting.

I wonder if that was considered young people's wild music by the older stuffy adults of that time.

for the most part "They" still had the Traditional Family unit

but the seeds of destruction were already being sown

Two lousy book ends, the pandemic from 1918-1920 and then the Great Stock Market Crash of 1929. With WWI overlapping a bit of that time.

History is full of a lot of human misery and suffering, before, during and after the 1920s.

Nah man, that's not her band. That's Postmodern Jukebox. They perform with a variety of talented singers. Scott Bradlee, the pianist is the founder and does the arrangements.

You do realize it is just starting the 20s right?
If you are old enough look back at the 90s. People (myself included) think those were some great years. But shoot it started in the toilet. People were getting fired by the tens on thousands as companies closed and moved over seas.
It'll get better. We can have more doom boners along the way.
Who knows maybe in ten years we will look back on this year as easy living.

The best time to be alive would have been 1955 to 1965, and be able to travel all over the world.

There was a 1960's television show I loved as a kid called The Happy Wanderers, which was a travelog with narration.

Not that I didn't have a wonderful time traveling the world in the 1990s, but I believe the late 50s to early 60s would have been much better.

Used to watch this show as a kid :)

In general, that was a nicer, kinder time, when limits weren't being pulverized on a daily basis. Certain berserk-conformity patterns notwithstanding.

By comparison, America in 2020 is more Caligula-ish and has way more no-holds-barred liberalism, both culturally and politically. Trump is but a blip in the overall picture. There is nothing necessarily kind, caring and big-hearted about left-leaning trends.
