What I never understood is why on EARTH did they only start making sound motion picture releases in 1927 (The Jazz Singer, you posted above) when they already had Dr. Lee DeForests SOUND ON FILM MOTION PICTURES already for almost 10 year!

Vitaphone was an audio shellac disc that had to be meticulously synchronized to what the projector was projecting on screen. It made no sense to use that archaic process when THEY ALREADY HAD SOUND MOVIE FILM!!!

This documentary explains it. Plus there are dozens of examples all over youtube of pre-Jazz Singer 1927 sound movies (yet The Jazz Singer gets all the credit, and for only 1 or 2 snippets of sound during that film!)

What's even more amazing is the fact that in 1929, only a few films were done with sound. Silent pictures WERE STILL BEING PRODUCED! Why on earth would they do that with the amazing technology of sound motion pictures readily available?

That was an excellent movie, where a man time travels by accident into the 1920's in Paris. Now I'll have to watch it again.

He meets a whole bunch of the "lost generation" people there. Very well written and produced.

Here he meets the F. Scott Fitzgeralds and Ernest Hemingway

Re: The ROARING 20's
great thread - re " Re-release of a 1962 FANTASTIC Lp album of original Charleston "All-Stars" from the 1920's, including Louis Armstrong in the orchestra, made up of all 1920's and 30's ORIGINAL MUSICIANS! IN GLORIOUS STEREO!!"

Tuba bass ruled ! that with whatever harmonic distortion in the system on the early electrics, gave a powerful propulsion to music.

Re: The ROARING 20's
Definitely not the same.

1920s - people were fearless, independent, pioneering in thought and action - fierce and wild like wolves.

2020s - people are impotent with fear, dependent on their government to save them, lack individuality and individual thought - people have turned into fearful sheep.

Amazing how much the spirit of people has shriveled up into cowardice, scared little sheep - easily corralled into fear and inaction.

Hek, even in the 60s people were not afraid and partied at Woodstock in the middle of a pandemic:
