Tonight is Passover
Christians need to keep the New Passover as Jesus showed and told us to keep it.

Passover/last supper was last night. Nisan 14. Jesus death would be today at 3 pm.

Re: Tonight is Passover
"We no longer have to slaughter a lamb or smear its blood on our doorposts, but we do have to raise a cup and break bread in memory of Jesus’ sacrifice and triumph. We have to do it because Jesus told us to do it. We can do it alone, if we have to, knowing that Jesus and God are with us. But we need to do it. We need to remember the first Passover, and we need to remember what Jesus told us in celebrating the Passover.

"He did not say to memorialize his crucifixion or celebrate his resurrection. He told us to do two very specific things on Passover in his memory.

"If I were you, I would do them."

No -- the lamb is slaughtered on the 14th, but the Passover meal is celebrated on the 15th, which starts in the evening of the day of the 14th.

That is tonight, after sunset.

Jesus was crucified once -- that was enough.

We don't need to relive that over and over. He didn't ask us to do that.

But we are to celebrate the Passover as Jesus taught us to do, if we're his followers.

No Jesus celebrated the Passover and right after was the last supper. All on the 14th. His death is on the 14 th and was buried before the 15 began.

Re: Tonight is Passover
For those of you quibbling over the date, here is an explanation:

[link to www.almanac.com (secure)]

Right now is 14th Nisan. The lamb is slaughtered today. After sundown (in a few hours), it will be 15th Nisan, time to eat the Passover meal.

However, the date is not the important part of this thread. The content of the Passover meal is the whole point.

Jesus taught his followers how to celebrate the Passover in a new way.

That's what you should be taking from this thread, not quibbling over a date (even though tonight is really the Passover, not last night). Jesus did not change the date of the Passover; he added a new ritual in memory of him.

You're wrong about that, but again, the date isn't the point. How Jesus changed the Passover celebration and how we are to remember him in following those changes is the point here.

Tonight is Passover.

If you would prefer to say that last night was Passover (and Jesus celebrated Passover a day early), then that's your prerogative, but you would be wrong.

If you're Christian, God has no problem with you cooking and eating pork. I might have a sausage myself.

But you might want to clear all the yeast bread out of your house for a week, if you're Christian.

It's up to you. But it would be a good idea if you did it.

Absolutely -- the Bible is the best book ever written.

I reread it all the way through, old and new testaments, once a year, and every year I find something new I had overlooked before (or God hid until I was ready to learn it).
