Tonight is Passover

Yes. He didn't want to get beaten up and imprisoned and tortured and spat on and humiliated and falsely accused and stripped naked and forced to carry his own cross to his crucifixion.

He was a normal human being in that regard. You'd have to be very mentally, emotionally and spiritually disturbed to embrace that kind of torture and be happy about it.

He wasn't happy about it. He knew he had to do it, but he asked God if there was some other way for him to do what he had to do without all the torture. When God told him "no", then he resolved within himself that he would do it, and that was that.

He did it.

It's done.

And it doesn't need to be done again.

I'll be rereading the Passover scriptures tonight, both old and new testaments.

We need to do this, if we're Christians, and we need to teach others to do it.

The Passover ritual begun by Jesus is what he wanted to celebrate -- not his crucifixion and certainly not "Easter", the pagan fertility feast.

This year more than ever, we need to celebrate Passover, and we need to celebrate it as Jesus showed us, even if we have to do it alone.

Mark 15:42

42 Now as it was already late in the Friday afternoon, and since it was Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

54 Now it was the day of Preparation [Friday], and the Sabbath was about to begin.

Passover commemorates the night that the Hebrew slaves in Egypt were "passed over" (that is protected) from the final plague brought by God on the Egyptians -- which was the slaughter of all first-born humans and animals.

No Hebrew slaves in Egypt died that night, but all first-born among Egyptians died, from the slaves' first-born all the way up to the Pharaoh's first-born.

The next day, Pharaoh gave the Hebrews permission to leave, and they started on their 40-year exodus out of Egypt and towards the Promised Land, under the leadership of Moses.

For Christians, Passover commemorates not only the Hebrews' supernatural protection from God and the start of their exodus from Egypt, but it also marks the night before Jesus' crucifixion. Jesus celebrated the Passover just before he was arrested. During the Passover meal, he showed us a new ritual to follow in remembrance of him. In doing this, he showed us that he wanted us to keep on celebrating Passover (just like he wanted us to keep on following the Commandments) but also to include his new ritual.

We celebrate Passover as Jesus showed us, in obedience to God and in honor of Jesus.

No, he ate the Passover meal with all his disciples present. After Judas left to betray him, he instituted the observance of the memorial they were to observe "in remembrance of me", that same night.

The Pharisees celebrated it on the 15th. But the sadduccees celebrated it at the turn of the 13th to the 14th. The last supper was Yeshua celebrating the correct passover as the sadduccees did which ignored oral law and went by the written law only.

It was 12 midnight on the 14th that the death angel passed over...not 12 midnight on the 15th. By that time the Israelites were already to Succoth.
